go cards check-in at hotels

go cards are checking in at South-East Queensland hotels to connect tourists to the region's public transport network.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson said up to 15 Brisbane hotels would be taking part in an upcoming trial which will help make the go card more accessible to tourists visiting the region.

"Guests will soon be able to pick up a go card and transport visitor information packs from their hotel's front-desk or reception," Mr Emerson said.

"Previously the go card has been sold at transport hubs, newsagents and retailers such as 7-Eleven, however from this week go cards will be available at major hotel chains.

"There are 12.3 million domestic and international tourists who visit South East Queensland each year and now they will have greater access to incentives such as the LNP's free travel after nine journeys.

"The go cards also come with travel information and maps, helping tourists connect with the city's public transport network."

Public transport will play an important role for tourism, one of the Newman Government's priorities in building a four-pillar economy.

Brisbane hotels included in the intial trial include Rydges Southbank, Stamford Plaza, Novotel, Mercure, Ibis and Emporium Hotel Brisbane

"The go card and visitor information pack is a quick, easy and cost-effective way to provide benefits to visitors arriving in South East Queensland," he said.

go cards are available for purchase at 580 locations, over the phone on 13 12 30 or by visiting www.translink.com.au

That's good, but I think more importantly improved marketing of the option to get a go card at the airport with a cash refund on the way home.

The people to implement it probably weren't around.

Bought a daily tram ticket from the hotel we stayed at in Amsterdam in 2010. Was great, would probably have walked/not gone to some places (watch State of Origin in Aussie pub) without it.  :-t

Gold Coast?
That too.  And don't forget the Sunshine Coast.  Might not be a high demand location, but for those affected it would be very annoying.

Are news agencies still having issues getting ahold of go cards to sell?
