$700,000 upgrade for Dandenong Railway Station and bus interchange

Wednesday, 27 June 2012

From the Minister for Planning

Access to bus services and the Dandenong Railway Station will be improved following $700,000 in funding announced by Minister for Planning Matthew Guy.

"Access to this important transport hub is vital for it to operate effectively and efficiently and will ensure that the Central Activities Area is well connected," Mr Guy said.

The Victorian Coalition Government's ongoing commitment to the state's Central Activities Areas ensures that councils are able to create an active, attractive and liveable environment for the community," Mr Guy said.

The investment will provide for:

    Relocation of traffic signals in Foster Street from Robinson Street to Ruddock Street;
    Infrastructure works to improve bus interchange capacity and operations which will include the provision of seating, shelter and better connectivity between buses and trains; and
    Better access to the bus interchange from the train station for people with a disability.

Member for the South Eastern Metropolitan Region Inga Peulich commended the announcement.

"This is another sign of the Coalition Government's commitment to the Dandenong community," Ms Peulich said.

"This funding will improve the public transport access for so many local residents.

"The funding follows on from the recent deployment of 13 Protective Services Officers to Dandenong Station which has provided further security and better station amenity for commuters," Ms Peulich said.
