Event - GoldlinQ Visit (13 July 2012)
« on: June 14, 2012, 03:07:14 PM »
Hi all,

A visit has now been arranged with GoldlinQ for Friday 13 July 2012.  We will be attending GoldlinQ's HQ in Southport and will be "taking in the sites" along the corridor, including a tour of the station shell at the University Hospital stop and potentially a quick visit to the Visitor's Centre in Surfers.

Final details are (as at 10 July 2012) as follows:

8:27 - board Gold Coast train at Roma Street
9:34 - arrive Nerang (I will join at Beenleigh in the first car)
9:43 - board 20A at Nerang bound for Southport (scheduled arrival 10:07) -
10:07 - arrive Southport - wander around the area, late breakfast or morning tea if desired.
10:30 – be at project office (Level 2, 7 Bay Street, Southport)
11:00 – Boardroom project presentation
12:00 – Boardroom lunch and meet and greet with key project people
12:30 – Travel to GCUH Station Shell
13:00 – Induction and site tour of station shell
13:45 – Bus tour south down the corridor
14:45 – tour finish and drive to drop-off at Robina Train Station
(train north at 14:53, or otherwise there will be one south to Varsity Lakes if anybody wants to have a look before heading back)

Refreshments will be provided along the course of the day.

PPE will be provided at the station shell so no need to bring your own hard hat/hi-viz etc, but a long-sleeved shirt and long trousers (and closed shoes) are mandatory.  Steel-cap boots will be provided when on-site, but if anybody has their own feel free to bring them.

Bookings are now closed.

EDIT: Update proposed details/itinerary

Hi folks,

We have 7 confirmations from members of RailBOT and some others I have approached.  There may potentially be room for one or two more if anybody has a last minute change of circumstances.

Still clarifying - but they will likely have some available.  I've just advised numbers so they may be able to give an answer now.

Thanks.  I think I have a pair somewhere but I expect many don't have.

UPDATE - steel-caps not required (will be supplied), but obviously preferably if anybody has them.

Long-sleeved shirt and long trousers will be mandatory though.

Great day, 6 made the tour. Thanks to GoldlinQ and SurfRail  for an excellent day.

Real progress with the light rail.  A lot of the early works completed and work on the track itself to start soon.

An excellent day's excursion to the Gold Coast. It was great to see the project progressing so well, and for once a QLD public transport project that appears not to be half baked.

Thanks SurfRail & GoldLinkQ.

Photos to come ...

We will be repeating this tour mid 2013 for your information.  Hopefully after the first tram is delivered.

Media release 17 July 2012

SEQ: Gold Coast Light Rail on track!

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport passengers has said there has been steady progress with the Gold Coast Light Rail project(1).

Robert Dow, Spokesperson for RAIL Back On Track said:

"The light rail system will be transforming for the Gold Coast (1)."

"A group of RAIL Back On Track members visited the project on Friday last to observe the present construction activities (2)."

"Construction is disruptive for the community, but the gains will be very significant in terms of direct economic benefit and improved mass public transport options."

"During our visit, it was obvious what a serious problem road congestion is on the Gold Coast. The light rail system will help considerably in driving increased public transport usage, and in so doing improve the quality of life for all, residents and tourists."

"Gold Coast Light Rail will show Queensland and Australia what modern light rail is all about.  We believe it will the first of many new light rail systems to follow in all major and regional cities."

GoldLinQ Communication and Stakeholder Director Jason Ward said:

"It’s exciting to welcome visitors on to the construction corridor and show how the project is really progressing now."

"We look forward to hosting more corridor tours with interested groups in the future.”
