New railway police outpost opens at Robina

Security on the Gold Coast line has been boosted with the official opening of a new police outpost at Robina station today.

Minister for Police and Community Safety Jack Dempsey said the new outpost at Robina Railway Station would enhance policing on the Gold Coast line.

“The Robina Railway Station is an ideal location to base an outpost because it will provide extra resources and police officers to the Gold Coast district,” Mr Dempsey said.

“The additional team of railway patrol officers will create a highly visible uniform presence on the train which will enable officers to respond to incidents or anti-social behaviour on the Queensland Rail networks.

“The facility will also cater for future squad growth and will be utilised during major events and special operations which are held at the Skilled Park Stadium.

“Queensland Police Service together with Queensland Rail will continue to work to improve safety and reduce anti-social behaviour on our trains.”

Assistant Minister for Public Transport Steve Minnikin said safety is a top priority of both the Newman Government and for Queensland Rail.

“Together we are always looking at ways to improve security across the network for customers and employees, including this new police outpost,” Mr Minnikin said.

“Queensland Rail has also introduced mobile security dog patrols, CCTV upgrades, increased Railway Squad officers, and Mounted Police patrols, in addition to the existing Guardian Train and After Dark security initiatives.”

Mr Minnikin said the purpose-built outpost would provide a permanent base for Railway Squad police to patrol the busy Gold Coast line, in addition to an existing outpost at Beenleigh.

“Queensland Rail worked closely with the Queensland Police Service to build a facility that would meet their operational needs, and cater for patronage future growth in the area,” he said.

“We are pleased to deliver this new facility, which boosts police visibility and builds on the raft of existing security measures in place for Gold Coast commuters.

“This new outpost is another example of our commitment to improving rail services in South East Queensland.”
