Oxley subway needs some work ...

Cracks have appeared, appear to be superficial, but the with the leakage of muck, and now cracks, points to some instability.

These things may have something to do with it ..

The upgrade of Oxley station and surrounds is a concern. The footbridge was closed for more than twice as long as initially indicated and only opened after sustained pressure from the local community to open it. On a more minor issue, the rusted screws holding the stair tracks have only recently been fully replaced. The PID's are regularly breaking down. The bus stop adjacent to platform 3 appears to have big issues and is not in the place it was supposed to be and still has temporary fencing after 12 months. The roof of platform three doesn't really stop rain from falling on commuters (rain in qld generally falls at a range of degrees not just straight vertical) and the gutters leak considerably. The subway seems to have avoided any remediation thus far and is in a poor state. There are scant gocard readers (but that's not really a station upgrade issue, more translink). Not really good enough for a station which is one of the busiest on the network outside of the city stations.

Do we have any idea when the "upgrade" of the station will be finished and what it is supposed to look like when it is "finished"

Hmm I wish we had that many gocard readers on the eastern end of platform 3 and I wish we had the footbridge barriers in the representation - the current ones are much more high security prison, can't see through type ones.

Wow!  4 Go Card readers at one entrance/exit!  It'd have to be one of the busiest stations on the network to achieve that!   >:D

I haven't been following this particular threat a lot, but I've noticed at Corinda the new lines branch off to the Tennyson loop. So does this mean that they have to merge onto the exising 4 tracks?

The new tracks also seem dangerously close to the ramps used to go up to the station (on the Sherwood Services Side)

The platform one road at Oxley is the future Down Suburban Line, the non-wired track is the Up Suburban Line.

ozbob

Thanks, so will that be the new track designations?   Platform 3 road down main, platform 2 up main, platform 1 down sub, 'freight' line up sub?

Train Controller

Yep, Platform 3 is Down Main, Platform 2 is Up Main....

As far as I know, the non-wired Up Sub track will be electrified from where the crossovers are on the Oxley-Darra section.

#Metro

Just a question.
What is the difference between mains and suburbans?

longboi

They're more or less just names to differentiate between the lines.

Freight and peak hour/express services are usually routed onto the mains and your regular services will be routes on suburban lines.

Track closure Corinda to Rosewood.  Work has been done on a new membrane on top of the subway at Oxley.  Nightly subway closures from May 25 to fix the walls and cracks.  Hopefully the membrane will stop the seepage and leakage into the subway, although some old timers thought there was a spring in that general area way back ...

The ramp to allow easy access from the subway to bus stop B and platform 3 Oxley is still being worked on to make it fully DDA compliant.  Still closed although work as occurring yesterday (Saturday 28th August).

The moisture leaking into the subway from the roof seems to have stopped since the membrane was done under the rail lines up top.  There is a problem though with constant water seepage at the UP end of bus stop A, and constant moisture into the floor of the subway.  It seems to me, there has always been a spring or a seepage source in the area.  The recent works (new tracks etc.) may have concentrated this previous more diffuse flows and it is now more obvious.  There doesn't seem to be any easy fix for this, if at all.  There are some safety cones ('witches hats') in the subway.

It does seem that the opening of the new track will be delayed in order to combine the opening of Richlands and the Corinda-Darra third track together. The works notice below seems to suggest this

I certainly hope that the third track opens soon (hopefully late September/early October) which would definitely ease the squeeze on services, especially during AM peak, where I expect the two services (7:39am and 7:49am ex Corinda) would be extended to Darra. This would have an immediate impact on the two currently extremely overcrowded express services at that time (7:32am and 7:40am ex Darra).

somebody

If sportsbet had odds on that I'd think it would be pretty long for that to actually happen.

mufreight

Bringing the third and fourth tracks into service will make no difference to the present levels of service being operated.
The third and fourth tracks will probably be brought into service but basically for freight services and for the easier operation of works trains for the Richlands branch.
The operation of freight services over the new track will help to bed it down.

Some new PIDs platform 3 Oxley east.  These will be handy when 'musical platforms' starts.  I was just down at Darra rail and noted SMU207 down (inbound) on the MAIN UP through platform 3 Darra.  Appears to be driving training.  With the bi-di capability now will be interesting in a few weeks or so ...

Also noted the water leak up from Bus Stop A Oxley has been fixed as well.

Anxiety over Woolies moving into Oxley

Anxiety over Woolies moving into Oxley

12 Oct 10 @ 09:25am by Alana Scott and Christopher O'Leary

OXLEY: The Oxley Progress Association president Bill Thirkill is tipping trouble for small retailers if plans for a new Woolworths store proceed.

Woolworths and Disability Services Queensland will take major tenancies in a multi-million dollar centre Property Solutions Australia wants to develop in Oxley Station Rd.

A spokesman for Woolworths said it would create a 3200sqm supermarket which would generate 100 new jobs and deliver ``a range of benefits'' to other Oxley businesses.

"We have been interested in servicing the Oxley and Corinda area with a full-range supermarket for a long time. Across Australia there are butchers, bakers and specialist stores right outside our doors and we like them because customers like diversity,'' he said.

Mr Thirkill doubts Oxley has enough shoppers to sustain existing outlets such as the Foodstore and the proposed Woolworths.

"We've got a Woolworths at Darra and a good privately-owned Foodworks where the owner has created a shop which Oxley is proud of."

Foodworks owner Chris Antonieff admits his business will be ``severely impacted'' by a rival Woolworths, adding: ``It would be very tough for us because there's not the number of people about who could support both outlets. I'd like to think the community would support us.''

Brisbane City Councillor Milton Dick (Richlands) welcomes the development but has called for upgrades to Oxley Station Rd as part of the project.

A government spokeswoman said DSQ would relinquish premises in Goodna and vacate the Old School Building at Wacol to move to Oxley.

Property Solutions Australia declined to comment.

Draft designs for the new centre can be studied at Cr Dick's ward office.
