BUZ 411 Feeder

Route 411

Toowong to Uni of QLD via Hawken Drive

- Take it out of the CBD, cut it off at Toowong Station.
- The money saved from this can be used to boost the frequency of 411 massively
- Transfer at Toowong will allow onward connections to 400 series buses and also to trains in both directions.

411 would do it's normal run until it gets on to Gailey Road, where it would turn left into Heroes Avenue, right into Burns Road, to get into Jephson Street in Toowong and then use the Sherwood Road turnaround to terminate at Toowong station.

First up off the bat: Haven't you put this forward previously and the end result was that Toowong is to close to the CBD for a feeder like this to terminate? That was from STB if I remember correctly.

Second, if you're terminating at Toowong, why not just do the same loop as the 402 (right from Benson St into Glen Rd, around and left back onto Benson St to stop at the UQ bound Toowong bus stop)? While the route from Gailey Rd is good (it's the way most people driving to UQ from the north west suburbs go to avoid the traffic on Sherwood Rd and High Street), traffic on Sherwood Rd can be quite ridiculous at times, especially in peak so would lead to this taking longer than the 402 loop more often than not. Waiting for a green light at the Burns Rd-Moggil Rd intersection can also be time consuming. In fact, if you were going via Burns Rd, why wouldn't you just turn right into High St? It's more reliable that way.

Yes, but I don't agree with STB's assessment. It may be a little slower, but the service will be more frequent and it's almost a cost neutral thing. Passengers for other destinations can transfer to BUZ 412.

The traffic at the Schonell Drive / Coronation Drive interface can be crazy too. Route 402 isn't so great where it stops - it is a long walk. 411 can be moved for a) coverage reasons, b) better connection with the citybound 400 series buses and closer to Toowong Shopping Centre / Toowong rail for transferring to rail. Now that frequent rail services are at Toowong all the time and also frequent bus, this is a cheap way to get more frequency. 411 is very infrequent and could be improved if it were just shortened to not duplicate absolutely everything down coronation drive.

The 402/412 bus stop at Toowong really isn't a long walk from the train station at all. Your other point about traffic between Sir Fred and Coro may or may not be valid, I don't use buses through there enough to know.

^Agreed.
Approaching 4 years at UQ now and it  never occured to me that the 402/412 is far from the station....It's not, and there's a pedestrian bridge that lets you avoid traffic.
Every morning that stop is buzzing, so it aint broke IMO.

Well the pedestrian bridge is quite far from the train station, and I'd rather have the 411 terminate in the turnaround there. That has easier access to the citybound 400 series of buses IMO. But this minutae aside, the main point is the feederisation to rail in order to get double the frequency. The welfare stops between the express stops on Coronation Drive can continue to be served by the 433 et al services.

The pedestrian arrangements aren't the best from the inbound stop to Toowong station.

I reckon what needs to happen is to build up the road surface a bit so its not such a step up to the kerb on the Toowong village side of the crossing.

I guess there is the subway to use too, if you don't mind the smell of p%ss.
