330 BUZ & cut 326
« on: May 03, 2012, 05:13:32 PM »
Ok this has arisen after the Northern Busway discussions.
Currently the 330 finishes just 3 kms short of Sandgate. Sandgate is a not only a train station but a trip generater in the fact it is a shopping area and it has the beach. Apart from the 326 which is a once hourly service there is no link between the two areas.

So my idea is this. Extend the 330 from it's present terminus to Sandgate station. Cut the existing 326 at Sandgate (so it's just toombul - sandgate) as the 330 would then cover it's routing between Bracken Ridge - Sandgate. This would simpleify the routing in the area and give better access to and from Sandgate.

This change would be near cost nautral and Sandgate Bus interchange seams to have spare capacity.

I managed to click wrong vote...but can not change it.  Meant to be second last option.

I'm not sure about that. I guess it also depends on how one would route that in. It sounds good but I wouldn't mind seeing a frequent Strathpine-Sandgate route instead of a 330 extension. Until that road linking Bracken Ridge to Fitzgibbon is made there are multiple ways to cull/reroute/extend routes in that area.

I do see your point but
Sandgate already has a Interchange - Bald hills does not
the 330 already links to the NCL at Zillimere.
The 326 is only hourly and duplicates the 330 inside Bracken Ridge.

I think there is some considerable merit here.

Zillmere is not a proper interchange.

Strathpine is a more populated area along with an area providing more connections.

Besides Roma St, what is?

So a bus from Bracken Ridge to Zillmere + a ~300m walk to the station is classified as a proper rail/bus interchange to the NCL? Explains why Translink loves the Strathpine to Eatons Hill via Roma Street route then. The 335 is a little better at Carseldine with a ~200m walk from the station to the Balcara ave stop (Longer if your an old person that has to use the lights/want to avoid a jaywalking fine/fat person-pram-bags squeezing between cars at the car park). I also love the idea of using Zillmere as a NCL stop. Try getting to Strathpine from Bracken Ridge on a Sunday/weekday afternoon. Search for a way there on Translinks journey planner and it displays "Haha f**k you. Buy a car already... no?? Okay... you can go via Zillmere then..... oh but its still a weekday... Geebung it is!". Try getting from Strathpine to Bracken Ridge during morning peak hour it screams "YOU'RE GOING VIA ZILLMERE!!!" as the first 327 service is at 8.45am. Fantastic!

Its easy to see why I perfer to drive across the whole northside as PT is non existant north of Chermside. Actually that's not correct. There's a 2 hour route still running south of Chermside and its not the 336/337  ;D

Oh and IIRC, there used to be bus stops on the corner of Lucy Street/Bald Hills Road opposite the train station exit. Pretty sure only the seat/slab of cement remains as its street parking now.

Never having done it, it certainly doesn't seem to be 300m at Zillmere.  It's only about 400-450m at Indooroopilly.  Carseldine seems further than Zillmere too.

You can short cut Carseldine to the 335 stop by walking straight out of the station through the car park/shops but if you have luggage/bags/pram/not thin enough to squeeze between the cars you have to walk towards Beams road then along the carpark walkway to Beams road which is about 300m that way.

Checked nearmap and Carseldine shortcut was ~199m/via pathways ~290m/Shortcut + lights~280m. Zillmere was ~248m from the inbound stop to the station stairway and ~261m if using the shared crossing behind the inbound stop (That doesn't include the walk up ramps/stairs/along the platform to the cross overs etc. Just to the main enterances being the stairway bottom of the stairway crossover at Zillmere and the main single walkway to Carseldine).

All hail the mighty translink overlord!

@Zillmere it looks to be much more in one direction as compared to the other.  The outbound stop is reasonably close to the station.

Yeah. They had to hike the inbound stop futher up the road because of the left hander onto Zillmere road and because of the driveways into the local shops. Outbound is about 50-100m shorter.
