Solutions for the Allen St (loop) bottleneck?

One of the easiest upgrades would be to change the lane structure such that the bus lane becomes a normal lane and all other traffic is then force to merge with that.  That would give the buses effective priority over other traffic.

Longer term, it would be nice to have a fly under to cut off both the loop and the W'Gabba intersection, but still there needs to be buses being given priority over cars at the merge.

To be honest a bus lane all the way across the Captain Cook Bridge would be only about 60% as utilised as the Harbour Bridge bus lane is now.  No doubt it would carry more traffic than all other lanes combined, but that doesn't make it achievable in a political sense.

Ideally, any bus lane would be accessing lane 2 of the Captain Cook Bridge so that buses can access Elizabeth St without needing to be let in, but obviously it needs to end somewhere near QUT Gardens Point to allow cars to access Margaret St, and Stanley St traffic to continue on.

A re-designed intersection so that buses waiting can be moved past by through buses. A T2 peak hour lane and one of the ramps (Elizabeth Street) made BUS ONLY during peak hour.

I don't know what you mean "buses waiting can be moved past by through buses.".  Why are buses waiting here at all?

Elizabeth St ramp is SINGLE lane.  Bit of an issue with making that T2.

Hi Simon,

What I mean is that when buses queue to turn into the spiral  :-c, because the lane they are queueing in is a single lane, they also
block buses heading to Mater Hill. The buses are waiting for the lights to change at Allen Street portal.

So what? Why can't car drivers get off at Alice Street ramps? Yes, boo hoo for them, but what gives them the right to block up BUSES that carry ~ 10 000 pphd in the am peak hour.

Once the traffic light gives the green for the buses are they able to move through freely?  I don't go down here much.
