A BUS that is stuck after being wedged under a rail bridge in Graceville has stopped trains while inspectors make sure its gas cylinders have not been ruptured.

The Brisbane City Council bus was driving its usual route along Long St, near Honour Ave, when it became wedged by the low bridge.

Police are diverting traffic and Queensland Rail has cancelled or diverted trains to Graceville and Sherwood stations.

I was on the first up train that went through following the lines closure.

On arrival at Central all Ipswich trains were going express to Corinda via Yeerongpilly.

The 4.05pm service Central to Ipswich was notified as doing this.  After we left Roma St at 4.11 the train was held at the first signal for a couple of minutes.  Green signal then guard announced train would now run normal route.  Made a change as passenger  loading was only a DS2, normally it is a DS4!

This bridge is often the site of grief for vehicles.  Time some serious protection was put on it.

If the bus was traveling on its normal route, why did it get stuck this time? Why doesn't the bus strike the bridge every time? I assume the route will not be changed, so how close to the bridge are buses continuing to go? There is clearly a problem here!

Must we wait until the bridge is destroyed before it is fixed?
