Diggers to travel free to Anzac Day services

War veterans and their spouses will be offered free travel on rail, bus and ferry services on Friday as a mark of respect for Anzac Day.

Minister for Transport John Mickel said all TransLink operators would be providing services on the commemorative day, with additional public transport to dawn services.

"As has happened in previous years, the Queensland Government, through TransLink, will support our war veterans and their spouses by offering free travel on rail, bus and ferry services on this historical day.

"It is a small way for us to be able to say thank you to the men and women who risked their lives for our freedom.

"Many of those who fought for this wonderful country of ours did not come home and on Anzac Day we remember their ultimate sacrifice and pay homage to all of those who played such an unforgettable role in our nation's history,'' he said.

The free travel will apply to all veterans who are in uniform or who are wearing their service medals travelling to or from an Anzac Day ceremony.

Accompanying spouses will also be permitted to travel free. Family members wearing the medals of servicemen and women, who are marching on behalf of veterans, will also be entitled to travel to and from Anzac Day ceremonies.

Free travel is also offered to those taking part in any of the Anzac Day ceremonies, including Girl's Brigade, Boy's Brigade, Scouts and military association members in their uniforms.

For details of Anzac Day services go to www.translink.com.au or phone 13 12 30.

Huggies

Anyone who has served with the Armed Forces deserves free travel.
Sometimes I think the Go Card can go and get F**KED!

"It shocks me that Huggies has had a good idea for once in his dim-witted life!" - Jason Roberts, A.T.D.B.
