Be interesting to know the patronage today on this line in particular.

I noticed people trying to touch on their Go Card at suburban stations this morning.

It was nice not to have to queue up at the gates at Roma St.  :-t

Commuter chaos as downed powerline stops Brisbane trains

Updated February 28, 2012 15:21:00

The travel plans of tens of thousands of people in Brisbane were thrown into disarray this morning when a downed powerline halted rail services across the city. Queensland Rail scrambled to organise buses to allow commuters to leapfrog the affected stations, but delays of up to two hours have left commuters seething. The Premier has offered a free public transport travel day tomorrow.

Not all the signs were the same. Some buses had different wording, or "FREE BUS" or "FREE Travel" stuck on the corner of the windscreen. Others had none, so some passengers tried to touch on or buy a paper ticket.

It was nice to hop on and off not to worry about ticketing for once.

Mr X

Is it that hard to do a system override and switch off all the readers...?

Wouldn't think so MrX, they did it for the trains.

Buses would have been easier as the driver simply doesn't activate the gocard reader for the route. If anyone tagged on they would have got a seek assistance message or nothing at all.

Go card readers at the train stations displayed "Out of Service"

It seemed the next bus indicators were also turned off the free public transport day - doh!

Arnz

From reports from my colleagues, other Brisbane buses had the "Next Stop" indicators working per normal.  Same with the buses in the outer/coastal regions.  Isolated driver incident maybe?
