SEQ: Re-extend the 393 bus

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport passengers has renewed its call for the 393 bus to be re-extended back to Roma St.

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"It seems that the 140,000 weekly seat upgrade plan (1, 2) will do little to improve the plight of the Northern Busway (3).

"RAIL Back On Track has received several reports of persistent trouble boarding buses during the daytime as well as in peak hour.  Given that most trips of the 66 bus are already operated by articulated buses, upgrading the remaining few to become bigger buses will do little.  The only other upgrade for the Northern Busway is 8 additional 66 trips. "

"While better than nothing with these upgrades, capacity  can be further boosted by extending the 393 bus to Roma St.  This seat upgrade would make the slightly useful route heavily used. "

"The 66 bus cannot be increased in peak hour without having tighter headways at King George Square than what exists at any other underground stop. "

"An alternative solution, such as the 393 bus extension needs to be found.  Similarly, the 66 bus adds to the congestion at the Cultural Centre, but the 393 doesn't."

"It is baffling as to why the current situation exists with the 393 buses."

Inner Northern Busway - congestion

Greetings,

Despite constant efforts by us to raise the ongoing issues on the INB, little has been done to resolve the problems of overloads and long waits for pax to board buses, both peak and counter peak.

There have already been more recent reports of long waits to board buses (e.g. --> http://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?topic=195.msg88141#msg88141 ).

With the academic year commencing from Monday at QUT the situation is only going to deteriorate further.

One way of boosting capacity would be to extend the 393 bus which presently terminates at Normanby, through to at least Roma St.   It is rather bizarre to note full bus after full bus heading towards Roma St, except for the 393 'air parcel' which pax cannot board because of the termination at Normanby.

Best wishes
Robert

Another positive is that it would allow my plan of pressing out of service buses counter peak on the INB into service without adding a new route number.  393 RBH-Roma St in the PM, 66 Roma St-RBH in the AM.
