Registered users can control what information is displayed publicly in the profiles.

To improve functionality of the forum for post searches, on the 22nd January 2012 members will be enabled to list posts by members.

If you do not wish your email address or any other information to accessible you can update your profile.  Simply click on the PROFILE tab, on the main menu bar left top.

The default guide you link to does not explain this very well.

Should I assume that "hide email from public" hides my email from MEMBERS as well as PUBLIC ?

Explain this fully and what the benefits are or you WILL lose members.

Cheers

It hides it from members too.
Members who opt to have their email visible have a little envelope icon underneath their avatar.

This image explains it well. Briz Commuter opts to have his email visible because he is a blogger. If you click that icon it opens up outlook ready to compose an email direct to his blogs email address.
Everyone else has opted to hide their email address, so no icon for any of them.

Ianb, you are obviously fine, because you have no email icon below your avatar, so you have your setting correct for hiding your email to all.

The advantage of this change is the ability to go to a members profile and list the posts they have made. This greatly assists in finding something a member has written recently, a piece of info they posted, an image they posted etc and you want to refer back to it.

There is no net change in the level of privacy you have now.

Changes now effected.  This is the normal default mode.

You can now list posts by a particular member (members only) simply by clicking on the members name and following the links at the bottom of the profile.
