There is excellent opportunity for QLD Motorways, Main Roads and QR to joing paternship in creating a new passenger and freight line from
# Darra on the Ipswich line,
# travelling along Logan Motorway connecting with the Springfield line,
# Interstate line ( and  possible Greenbank passenger rail ),
# loop on to the Gateway Motorway connecting with Beenleigh and Gold Coast Line,
# Connections With SE busway at Eight Mile Plains
# Connections with Easter Busway at Carindale
# Connections with TradeCoast Central and Cleveland Line at Murarrie and Port of Brisbane
# Connections With Pinkenba and New Industrial Estates north of the river
# Connections with Airport line and proposed DFO
# loop back onto Northern Lines at North gate

With Gateway motorway at capicity and the new bridge only able to service for about 9 years before it reaches capacity, Qld motorways could make a fortune in track access ( along with Main Roads depending on the section of Road ) from freight and passenger services

Additional services could link Gold Coast and Beenleigh to Northgate, Caboolture, Gympie and Propsed Sunshine Coast, as well as a Ipswich and Springfield

With the evidence the number of vehicles that uses the Gateway bridge, this would be more than economically feasible.

Much merit in this suggestion Bernie IMHO.

Road/rail corridors make a lot of sense.

Do we know how much QR and other government departments actually check out enthusiast sites like this?

ozbob

No idea Zoiks, but I am sure we have more than an occasional visitor!

I have had an idea in my head for a while now and it goes something like this:

QR + Gov want to put a new cross river line in. They give us the details such as must pass through these certain stations and cannot have a stop less then X meters from the rivers edge.

They then throw this out to the enthusiast websites, or a new QLD Gov Brainstorm website. This is where all the enthusiests can design and give feedback on the ideas. 500 brains are better then 50. They then take these ideas and give feedback on them from the professionals. Sure alot of them will be ruled out because they are not fesable for some reason or another... but im sure there will be some good ideas that can be implemented.

When the plans come to fruition, they then show these back to the brainstorm site where we can make more constructive comments.

This could be applied to road, rail, timetables, buildings everything really.

Its an expansion on the community consultation. I think it would work because I have seen some truely awesome ideas and designs on this and other websites but they all seem to go to waste

The problem with passenger train services using the Gateway Motorway corridor is that the trains would not be going into Brisbane's CBD which is where most passengers want to go. Maybe the corridor being used to reroute freight trains around Brisbane would be an idea, thus freeing up valuable slots into the CBD.
Evening peak service to Enoggera* 2007 - 7tph
Evening peak service to Enoggera* 2010 - 4tph
* departures from Central between 16:30 and 17:30.

Re Zoiks points below:
I don't have any solid figures, but from what Ive seen (Im a student planner, the planning process is much more democratic than N.S.W.) with QLD Gov't & several other overseas departments they are aware that if they do not note their local constituents views in the early days they can look pretty silly when it is revealed at a later date on talk back radio.

Just one well known example i remember is the NSW RTA (Road builders) altered the Sydney M7 road Interchange design due to feedback from planners. The publics' input actually saved space.
BTW, at Uni we are taught that its the experts that built the Titanic but Noah built the Ark. Get the picture ? !

The way I see it, use our smart suggestions early on.
i.e. Now, and ensure that that idea gets picked up and becomes the new benchmark.
I don't care much who gets credit for ideas, so long as its put into action. I'd rather put the idea out their now AND upon the reports release (later in 2008) than attempt to persuade the powers that be to review their decision after the report is released.

Currently most rail users do travel to the CBD, with a small percentage travel between suburban stations

I think the idea of the Gateway Motorway Corridor woulb be to move drivers from cars travelling from the South Side and Gold Coast onto Trains and Buses servicing TradeCoast Central, Port Of Brisbane, Brisbane Airport and other High Density Commercial and Industrial Areas.

The Idea also would be to move freight from the Darra to Murrarie sections of QR network via dedicated corridor via Logan Motorway, as well as from Murrarie to Northgate via an Airport or Airport By-Pass.

This would increase track on the inner suburban network.

Most of Brisbane Workers don't work in the CBD, but actually travel through the CBD or Major Arterials like Gateway Motorway to and from work
