Couriermail --> Petrol and electricity costs biggest worry for Queensland families

But most wont turn off their air conditioning or lights and most insist on driving for all trips.  But it is the biggest concern and our Govts should fix the problem.  They all want someone else to fix it rather than their behaviour.  My household has cut $200 a quarter from our power bill (and we did use our air conditioning to start with).

Jonno

Oh what a typo by me.  It should ahve said that we did NOT use our arconditioner before hand.  DOH!!!!!!!!!!!!  :o

We're living in a fool's paradise propped up by ridiculously over inflated Aussie dollar.  Fuel prices are still unsustainably low.

This is only the beginning folks.

It will be a long, drawn out and agonising process.  There's still plenty of oil to be had, its just the easily tapped stuff that is starting to get scarce.  And with the continuing rise in demand those harder to extract fields will become commercially viable.

I currently pay $35.80 for PT fares a week,if I still had a car would be paying about the same to fill up with petrol every week, maybe more if the price of fuel keeps going up
only an occasional PT user now!

Couriermail --> Fuel bills drive Queensland car costs to top
So car use is higher in QLD than NSW and VIC, in spite of the capital city average trip distance being presumably less in QLD.

Hmm...

Again?  What's the point.

To allow the public to believe/hope/pray/dream/demand that petrol prices will be reduced, continue to deny that supply and demand applies to fuel and avoid the reality that producing fuel is getting more and more expensive, alternatives are no cheaper and our Govt have built economies that are at the mercy of rising fuel costs.  Probably good value for money really if that is your intent!!!

If I bought a Milk bar and charged $5/L for milk and $5/ loaf of bread and was making lots of money from it, no one would care. Anyone buying my high cost products would be labeled an idiot and everyone would pat me on the back for new found wealth.

Try opening your shop and charging $5/L for milk on Monday, $4.50 on Tuesday, $5.50 on Wednesday, $6 on Thursday etc. and see what happens.

The fluctuations in fuel prices make no rational sense.

Although, I'm fairly certain large fleet buyers such as bus companies pay a fixed monthly price anyway.

In this part of the world, people thinking about organising with a farmer their own fruit/vege cooperative to cut down on food miles.  Transportation such a big factor in what we buy at the supermarket.  The local fruit and veg shop is fighting back, sourcing product in season from local farmers and displaying 'locally grown' signs.  People are flocking to the local producers' product, including honey and eggs.

The relative value of the Aussie Dollar is what is protecting the petrol price at the moment to a degree.  When the Aussie Dollar starts the downward cycle, which it will eventually, stand by ...

It is inevitable IMHO that registration etc. of a motor vehicle will be based on distance tolling ...  as they are finding in the US of A, petrol excise taxes are starting to dry up.

Here here - I have a 2005 Commodore Berlina V8 - which I love and won't be replacing it for another five years - it achieves 10l/100km highway and 13l/100k city - only drive it around 3k a year due to active and public transport ... but it costs $1k to register here in sunny Qld under the current model ... personally would love to see a different model than the one that's been in place for decades - but it needs to support a move towards active/public transport
