Question about Doomben Line

When was the pairing of Cleveland Line with Doomben Line introduced?  On re-opening of the Doomben Line in 1996, or some time later?

From memory, when Doomben re-opened in '96 it was not paired with Corinda via South Brisbane like it was up to 1993, but I can't remember if the Doomben trains ran to/from Cleveland or terminated at Roma St.

Anyone?

Oh this is going back. Form memory it was in conjuction with major timetable reforms, Gold Coast line starting up and the new tunnel from Brunswick Street-Roma Street around 98. It used to be Caboolture-Cleveland and Shorncliffe-Ipswich.

Edit: Doomben reopened in 98 after closing in 93.

Ok, that makes sense.  I'd forgotten it was '98 that Doomben reopened, thought it was '96 for some reason.

I recall there being a small campaign which quickly fizzled out a few years prior when someone proposed a line to the airport via Doomben to restart services in the area. Maybe that might be a reference or something.

Yeah, I vaguely remember that idea, and there was also quite a bit of "kite flying" about LRT conversion of the Doomben line, St Kilda style, at one stage. To the point that Beattie's "Brisbane Light Rail Project" (the one that replaced BrizTram) was going to be 3'6" gauge.

I actually think Airport via Doomben would have been much more sensible than what we ended up with, but that's irrelevant now.

I'm inclined to agree with this, especially if it resulted in an improved frequency.  The current alignment is reasonably quick (could be faster given the curve radii) though.

Doomben line to me always seems a somewhat under-utilised strategic corridor given the regions potential - also, I believe there was a plan to put a spur rail line into the ship terminal/urban redevelopment region (Hamilton) at not a huge cost by infrastructure standards and the Hon Paul Lucas seemed pretty keen, well, at least he was on issuing the "we're considering it" news release and then, like alot of Paul's ideas, that's as far as it got and the years have ticked by.    ::)
SEQ, where our only "fast-track" is in becoming the rail embarrassment of Australia!   :frs:

The ULDA plan for Hamilton preserves the station site and corridor, but it is only a development plan.  Just means that when a government finally wakes up, they won't have to put it underground, knock over a 20 storey building or put it in a sub-optimal location.

The 2031 plan definitely shows it as preserved, along with Springfield to Ripley.

Hopefully Caboolture - Wamuran, and Bethania - Logan Village - Yarrabilba can be added to that list. Such proposals may seam like foaming today, but in oil starved 2050 they may be seen in a different light.
