Hello Metatron,

For the record.
I can confirm that it was a misprint or miscommunication in the Sunshine Coast Daily story of 14 April, 2012.
The story was later amended to reflect this.

"I am committed to meeting the former state government's promise of a 2031 deadline.
These lines were added to the online story afterwards...
Mr Powell said he would be doing everything he could to see if LNP could deliver the duplication sooner than the former government's 2031 deadline.
"I am very supportive and appreciative of the government's initiative to recognise the need for improved infrastructure in the area."

I also personally received a phone call from Mr Powell on the day of the story apologising for this error and assuring me of his commitment to get the works happening sooner.

This was further confirmed in a Ch 7 Local news story that same evening, where he stated that he would be knocking on the Transport Ministers door to get this happening sooner than the former Government's deadline.

That said, this petition is an appropriate action that I will wholeheratedly support and promote.
I will be doing all I can to ensure that work starts on this critical infrastructure upgrade to Landsborough by the end of 2014.
A not unreasonable timeline IMHO.
Thank you.

PLAN STAGE 1 ...

Awaiting Queensland State Government announcement regarding funding for rail infrastructure - was due in September 2014.

"The Government will deliver its final plan for the Strongest and Smartest Choices in September 2014"

Correspondence to me from the Transport Minister, the Hon. Scott Emerson MP and dated 17 July 2014.

In the big scheme of things and in regard to the size of this project.. I can wait a little longer.  :ttp:

I hope for an announcement of rail duplication from Beerburrum to Landsborough before the election due in March 2015 (but this could be as late as June 2015).
It will be dependent upon winning the election with a mandate for long-term asset leases.

The critical section (most tortuous, winding) is actually just north of Landsborough between Mooloolah and Palmwoods.
#2tracks rail duplication to Nambour is what is required to fix the 1668 km freight rail bottleneck up to Cairns.
Nothing less will suffice.

There are other choke points (short passing loops) further up the North Coast Line, but none are as short as the 683m long (oxymoron?) loop at Palmwoods.
There are other restrictions too, e.g. the timber rail bridge at Maryborough South where a 15km speed restriction and braking/acceleration restrictions apply.

Still patiently waiting for Federal funding via ARTC...  who were embedded within Queensland Rail since February 2014 for 6 months to assess the network
hoping for an historic announcement...  since the works mysteriously stopped under Labor in April 2009 without word or reason
wondering the timeframes... given the (retiring LNP member for Warrego) Hon. Howard Hobbs, reported to the Sunshine Coast Daily that works need to occur within the next 5 years.
