Signage on the eastern car park at Petrie station saying the new car park will open on 23 September, and the temporary car park (temp my rear end, it's been there for years) will close on 1 October.

There's just one tiny problem with that - the 'new' car park is about a quarter the size of the 'temporary' one, which is full before the morning peak finishes.

Oh dear.  :fp:

I too am concerned about the lack of parking at Petrie Station, especially from next week when the temporary parking at the old paper mill site is fully closed. I guess we'll see how it goes from next week.

I'm curious as to the timing of the closure of the temporary car park at the old paper mill car park, which will be fully closed from 1/10/16. The information posted on Translink's website regarding parking on the open day on 3/10/16 is as follows:

"Will there be parking?
The car parks will be open at the stations, however parking will be limited. We're encouraging people to walk along the shared path to familiarise yourself with the new stations if possible."

With this in mind, I would have thought keeping the temporary parking open until at least 4/10/16 would have been desirable.

Petrie will still be busy, but I honestly wonder just how busy given how many extra parking spaces are being delivered along the branch.

ABC News --> Looking back on the 131-year battle to build a railway to the Redcliffe peninsula

QuoteWhen signalling problems pushed back the opening of the Redcliffe Peninsula train line by a couple of months earlier this year, the added wait seemed like an eternity for locals.

But historian Greg Hallam knows just how long residents of the region have really been waiting for rail to come to Kippa-Ring.

It was 1885 — 131 years ago — when the idea of a rail link to the Redcliffe region first came about.

That long wait finally comes to an end next week when the first passengers make the journey from Kippa-Ring to Petrie as part of an open day to celebrate the long-awaited rail link, to be known as the Redcliffe Peninsula Rail Line.

The new 12.6-kilometre dual-track passenger line includes new rail stations at Kallangur, Murrumba Downs, Mango Hill, Mango Hill East, Rothwell, and Kippa-Ring.

Mr Hallam, who is the historian for Queensland Rail, estimated there have been at least 22 different concepts and variations of the Redcliffe line since the first was planned in the late 19th century.

He said the long wait came down to "rotten luck and politics".

"It's a long and interesting and convoluted railway line," Mr Hallam said. ...

Check this out on the ABC site.  Lots of interesting clippings and so forth.

On that evidence, lots more versions of CRR to come then.  :hg

Received this in our mail box today. 90 pages long.

Geez, what's inside, a foldout map of every bus route?

Now, let's imagine what a Brisbane City edition would encompass

Love the fact that "train" was not an option as a travel option on the Redcliffe Peninsular Line's open day ticket site. Queenslander!

The shared path has everything everyone wants.  Heaps of at grade road crossings, some narrow stretches,  unnecessary bends, sharp turns, paralleling main roads.

Some frequencies are also incorrect in that map.

A sad day for commuters using Nundah, Toombul, Wooloowin and Albion stations who will now lose their night and weekend 15 minute frequency.

There are weekend and evening Northgate services to maintain the 15 min frequency to Toombul and Nundah during those times.

Albion & Wooloowin still has have better than 4TPH off-peak after the timetable change, they have 7TPH (+2 Shorncliffe, +2 Northgate, +2 Airport +1 Doomben)

My mistake, I was reading the PDF timetables. According to the Shorncliffe PDF timetable, last o/b Northgate service departs Central 7:58pm M-F, last i/b departs Northgate 8:42pm. No Northgate services at all weekends & public holidays.

Journey planner shows some extra Northgate services, but they are listed as CABR Caboolture to Brisbane City, but only run from Northgate to Roma St, and don't appear in the Caboolture PDF or Shorncliffe PDF timetable. Could be confusing for pax who refer to those timetables.

Also, the Shorncliffe PDF timetable shows all the Shorncliffe/Northgate trains departing Park Rd after 4:59pm weekdays commencing from Cleveland. I'm pretty sure Cleveland does not now have a 15 minute counter-peak service  :pfy:

IOW, it seems this particular timetable is riddled with errors, and it seems that journey planner needs two new train routes BRNG and NGBR.

Oh yeah, I forgot Airport trains now stopping at those stations. Doomben only runs daytime Mon-Sat though, no nights, weekends or public hol.

There actually used to be a printed inner city timetable covering Northgate-Park Rd, does this still exist as PDF?

Not sure if I'll be able to make it today, uni assignment is due today and there's more work to be done unfortunately.  If I do make it, I'm booked on the 11am train ex Petrie to Kippa Ring, if not, I hope the day goes well and I'll make sure I make it up there tomorrow.

Heading in from Toowong... Single seat from Toowong to Petrie 8)

Going to be on the 10am train from Petrie - hopefully the crowds aren't too bad!
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

petey3801

I believe there is an 'inner city' printed timetable, so assume there would be a pdf version, but not certain! Also, Cleveland has had 15min counter peak services since the last Sector 2 timetable change :)

Why Airport line running express now?

While people at those stations are essentially losing in the new timetable, it is for the better good of everyone.   There are some new services to maintain a proper 15 minute frequency at most times.  And those using northgate and eagle junction are the biggest winners of the lot.
Albion and wooloowin could easily be fixed by running more doomben and airport services.   Especially on weekends when there is an terrible frequency at all inner city stations.  These two stations should be a max wait of 12 minutes.

Im curious as to find out how they run the extra 4 northgate trains in peak.  There is alot that can go wrong and stuff up everything on the suburban tracks.

Just remember today is the last day of the bowen hills-caboolture full express.

Heading home..  Excellent opening pics later.
Prime Minister spoke well re rail and public transport.
Caught up with Premier, Deputy Premier, Minister for Transport and DG TMR and many others including QR & TL staff.
Thanks for coming along too SurfRail!

Nope.  Airport trains still stop all-stations.  As pointed out Albion and Wooloowin have 7TPH during the off-peak/evenings and weekends (6TPH on Sundays).   Toombul and Nundah maintains 4TPH.

Probably unreliably. 22tph (i.e. train every 2:30 with two 5:00 gaps per hour) is pushing it, given that I've never observed a headway better than 2:22 on the suburbans. Expect to enjoy the scenery queueing outside Bowen Hills junction more often.
