The new signals on Platforms 4 and 5 at Petrie were on  (displaying a red aspect) this morning, until now I've never seen them on at all.
TransStink - because your guess is as good as ours! ;)

RAIL Back On Track
Media Release  20 August 2006
Petrie to Kippa-Ring Railway

RAIL - Back On Track ( http://backontrack.org )   a web based community organisation for the promotion of rail throughout Australia has called for the commencement of construction for the long awaited railway to the Redcliffe peninsular.

On behalf of RAIL Back On Track, Robert Dow said: "There is a need to provide sustainable solutions to public transport from Petrie to Kippa-Ring.  Despite initial reports by Queensland Transport strongly endorsing an extension of the suburban rail network from Petrie to Kippa-Ring, no progress has been made with the railway.  Bus solutions will not provide for the projected growth along the transport corridor, and will only add to the general traffic congestion in the area.

Looming energy crises will force future rapid and excessively expensive development of rail solutions. A 'smart state' moves forwards today!

We call on the Government to make a commitment to stop the nonsense, and follow the initial advice of Queensland Transport and commence construction of the railway immediately."

Community open day event

Join us on Monday 3 October (Queen's Birthday public holiday) for our community day, take a free ride on the trains and see your new stations!

The first train will run from Kippa-Ring to Petrie, as part of the celebrations for the people of Redcliffe Peninsula.

Services will run from end-to-end on the new line, with community VIPs and members of the public.

We'll be conducting a public ballot for a seat on the first train to manage the huge volumes of people we know will want to be part of this historic event.

Details of the public ballot will be released in in the coming two weeks.

Excellent news that a date has been set :)

This rail link has everything going for it including having its stations fed by one of the more 'competent' bus operators in the SEQ region. Hornibrook buslines excel in:

Consistently good on-time running. I will put some of that down to generous connection gaps into stations as well as generous layover periods giving drivers time to catch up if they fall behind.
Keeping on top of their fleet upgrades and good maintenance practices...
Last but not least...first class back to base communication during peak periods....
All signs of a quality operator ;)

Bugger, I'll be away camping that weekend!

Does this mean that there will be another Ekka mid October  :P

I'll have to do an early morning ride before work one day, whilst racking up a journey on the Mrs Go Card  :-c

About bloody time!

I assume that the Open Day will only have a 30 minute frequency service?

tazzer9

Are they planning to do anything special for the community day.
Steam, NGR etc

Probably why the lady in the Translink image that is being used, is looking the wrong way for the train, probably checking the traffic on Anzac Ave. And the mum in the background is consoling her kids cause they just missed the hourly bus home  :hg

Better chance of steam, at least on display,  given that Steam Train Sunday is the day before.

tazzer9

While seeing steam would be lovely. MBRL is set up so it needs a DEL on the other end.
Hopefully Steam, 2000 class DMU, and NGR are present.  It is 100 years in the making.

Open day is my birthday! I wonder if I can con someone in charge into letting me ride the first train and a birthday present!

Light engine if it's display only. Back it up from Petrie.

Not enough room for all three tho I'd say.

As someone who lives in Moreton Bay I think that joke is in poor taste particularly as the last figures I've seen said that the only bus operator that had worse on-time running than Hornibrook was Thompson. Add to that the extremely infrequent service, no service at night and hardly any service on the weekends.

SurfRail

^ I think most of those factors can be attributed to 2 things:

- Complete lack of bus priority on the busiest stretch of ANZAC Ave - what exists is along the Rothwell to Kippa-Ring stretch instead of Kallangur where it would probably do some good

- TransLink continually knocking back Hornibrook's push to actually run more services.  From what I've seen, the first attempt at a new network and the one now being implemented are nowhere near as ambitious as what Hornibrook was actually trying to get through.

techblitz

To sum up hornibrook pre MBRL (of which I think they will improve a lot more post MBRL)

Of all the current hornibrook routes(non-Brisbane) there's really only a select few which aren't running completely on-time at peak/counter peak
680 <<<< not of hornibrooks doing...Anzac ave/bald hills/Carseldine congestion.
695 (minor 4-8 minute delays at peak due to kipparing/Rothwell traffic but nullified with connection windows @ sandgate)
p315(soon to be defunct which will increase hornibrooks o.t.p)
677 <<<< not of hornibrooks doing....Anzac ave congestion...nullified to an extent because of increased train frequency @ petrie.

So that begs the question...how can one even rate hornibrook above the others for o.t.r when many other operators also suffer the same 'vehicle congestion' issues?

The timetabling effort to combat natural forces....that's why...

Examples:

Ive never missed a connection into sandgate on the 695/690/ after 5+yrs of using the services...that's saying something in itself...

Also that 15 minute layover period at Chermside for counter-peak 680 drivers having to do a return run means the outbound 680`s always leave Chermside on-time....simply does not happen for a lot of the other operators...the flow-on delays for them are horrendous.....think 545/522/534 and the vast amount of late BT/BCC routes...

Hornibrook get the nod over others on EFFORT and their ability to deal with translink and make do with what they have got.
Im of the opinion they have improved their game immensely over the last 12 months.

QuoteAdd to that the extremely infrequent service, no service at night and hardly any service on the weekends.
its a funding issue and the only way it can be countered is to cut services from other areas....and/or reduce weekday frequency on the major routes...oh what could have been had the 315 not existed hey?.

Queensland Parliament Hansard Ministerial Statements 31st August 2016

https://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/documents/hansard/2016/2016_08_31_DAILY.pdf

Moreton Bay Rail Link

Hon. SJ HINCHLIFFE (Sandgate—ALP) (Minister for Transport and the Commonwealth Games)
(2.27 pm): I am delighted to announce that Moreton Bay's biggest public infrastructure project in more
than a generation, the Moreton Bay Rail Link, will open on Tuesday, 4 October. I can reassure the
community that the project is powering full steam ahead and in 34 days locals in the region will be able
to hop on a train from one of the six new stations in their backyard. Passenger services will officially
start on Tuesday, 4 October. However, I am pleased to inform the House that first there will be an open
day event on the public holiday, Monday, 3 October, for the community to join in the celebration.
It is not hyperbole to describe MBRL as a once-in-a-generation project. First talked about in the
late 19th century, the new line has been well over 100 years in the making and will transform
communities along the 12.6 kilometre corridor. With six new train stations at Kallangur, Murrumba
Downs, Mango Hill, Mango Hill East, Rothwell and Kippa-Ring, we will be throwing open the gates for
neighbours and community members to tour and inspect the new stations as part of the open day
celebrations.

As I said, the Moreton Bay region has waited more than 100 hundred years for this rail line to be
built, so it is only fitting that they will be the VIPs at this community celebration. Locals will be able to
orientate themselves around the new stations, inspect the facilities and services, and even try out the
new shared pathway. On the day, they will also be able to catch a free return train service between
Kippa-Ring and Petrie stations, which will stop at all stations and allow them to hop on and off to visit
community information stalls, food stalls and entertainment along the new line.

The start of passenger rail services on MBRL will also usher in a new-look bus timetable. The
bus network changes will support and complement the new MBRL train timetable and achieve a better
integrated public transport network for the Moreton Bay region, delivering more buses and
high frequency services and improve transport connections across the community.

When the line opens there will be more than 650 train services between Kippa-Ring and Brisbane
each week—trains every six to 12 minutes in the morning and afternoon peaks and trains every
30 minutes off peak and during weekends. The new-look timetable will improve the way locals use
public transport in the region with an additional 261 bus services a week and a range of new options,
including additional early morning and night time services and an increased span of operating hours on
the six additional routes every weekday.

There will also be more buses on the weekends, with increased operating hours on eight routes
throughout the region. Locals will also have better access to weekend buses and 98 per cent of
residents will be within a 400-metre walk of a Sunday service. There will be an extra 157 trips each
weekday and an additional 104 trips every weekend. This means overnight from when the train line
opens four times the number of residents will have better access to public transport services.
I encourage the community to join us for the open day on Monday, 3 October. They will be joined
by representatives from our co-funders—the Moreton Bay Regional Council and the Australian
government. I know the members for Redcliffe, Pine Rivers, Kallangur and Murrumba will all be there
to share in the celebration with locals on this historic occasion. I wish to acknowledge the member for
Redcliffe, the Attorney-General, in particular noting the key role she has played in delivering this much
anticipated and very welcome piece of infrastructure.

Paul Fletcher MPMinister for Urban Infrastructure Australian Government

Joint Media Statement: Full steam ahead: Moreton Bay Rail Link on track to open in October
Media Releases Thursday, 01 September 2016

Moreton Bay's biggest public infrastructure project in more than a generation – the Moreton Bay Rail Link – is on track to open in early October.

Minister for Urban Infrastructure Paul Fletcher said the $1 billion Moreton Bay Rail Link (MBRL) project is set to officially open on Monday 3 October 2016.

"We are inviting all members of the community to celebrate the official opening of this critical piece of rail infrastructure on 3 October, with regular passenger services scheduled to commence the following day," Mr Fletcher said.

"The community day is a chance to thank the people of the Moreton Bay region for their patience during construction, and also provide them with an opportunity to experience for themselves the new rail line linking Petrie and Kippa-Ring, the new stations and the shared pathway adjacent the rail corridor."

Queensland Minister for Transport Stirling Hinchliffe said the new rail link will be transformational for the region, especially for suburbs adjacent to the 12.6 kilometre rail line.

"From Tuesday 4 October, regular passenger services will commence together with an all new-look public transport network including more buses and higher frequency services for locals," Mr Hinchliffe said.

"When the line opens there will be more than 650 train services a week between Kippa-Ring and Brisbane, trains every six to 12 minutes in morning and afternoon peaks and trains every 30 minutes in off-peak periods and during weekends."

Federal Member for Petrie Luke Howarth said all six new stations on the line would be open for the public to inspect during the community day.

"I encourage locals to come along for the community day and see up close, this exciting new piece of infrastructure for the Moreton Bay community," Mr Howarth said.

"Given it will be a public holiday in Queensland and the last official day of school holidays, it will be the perfect opportunity to ride the train and inspect the new line."

"The changes to the local public transport network will support the new MBRL train timetable and achieve a better integrated public transport network for the Moreton Bay region."

Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Allan Sutherland said the historic rail line would transform the Moreton Bay Region.

"The rail line was first talked about in the late 1800s and when MBRL opens in October we will see the dreams and plans of our region's pioneers finally realised," Mayor Sutherland said.

"For the first time ever more than 34 per cent of local residents will be connected to fast and reliable public transport via the new electric train line – what an incredible thing for our community to celebrate on 3 October!

"MBRL has been more than 100 years in the making and is set to continue the strong economic growth of our region which already boasts some of Queensland's fastest-growing urban areas."

During the community day on 3 October free return train service will be provided between Kippa-Ring and Petrie stations with information stalls, food and entertainment being provided at Kallangur, Murrumba Downs, Mango Hill, Mango Hill East, Rothwell and Kippa-Ring stations.

The $1.026 billion MBRL project is jointly funded with the Australian Government committing $595 million, the Queensland Government committing $323 million and Moreton Bay Regional Council committing $108 million.

The way I see it, if you live (in Redcliffe, and) more than walking distance from Kippa-Ring station and south of Anzac Ave, then your existing bus to Sandgate is probably faster. Anyone in Rothwell or further west, train is definitely faster.

Well, that was the worst name they could have used.   All the polls have alluded to others.   (it also doesn't even enter redcliffe)
