Member for Mulgrave Curtis Pitt is encouraging local residents to try a new Bligh Government journey planner for qconnect bus services, powered by Google.

Mr Pitt said the qconnect journey planner made it even easier for people to plan travel around Cairns, Innisfail and throughout other regional towns and cities in Queensland.

"This new online journey planner will help people catching qconnect bus services to plan journeys

easily by visiting the website and entering trip details," Mr Pitt said.

"It will give people much easier access to regional urban bus service information.

"People can develop their own personalised point-to-point trips online, with the option to print their individual trips.

"The planner also removes the need to carry around bus timetables."

Mr Pitt said the journey planner would make it easier for commuters to use local bus services because route information was interactive and personalised.

"The planner lets people access online bus service information wherever they are, whenever they need it, on desktop and most web-enabled mobile devices," he said.

"Users just need to plan where they want to go, then go to the qconnect journey planner to find out how to get there."

Transport Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk said Queensland's qconnect delivered public transport services throughout regional and rural Queensland.

"The journey planner is available now for Airlie Beach and Proserpine, Bowen, Bundaberg, Cairns, Gladstone, Gympie, Hervey Bay, Innisfail, Mackay, Magnetic Island, Maleny to Beerwah, Maryborough,

North Stradbroke Island, Toowoomba, Townsville, Warwick, and Woodford to Caboolture areas," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"The journey planner will also be available for Rockhampton and Yeppoon residents soon."

Set in train

The use of google maps is great, although not yet up to standard as a mapping layer of 'transit' as seen in Perth & Adelaide.

ETA: would be nice to see the Translink journey planner similarly updated.

One step at a time please... including track closures and such other events would be nice first. Then possibly having bus stop names match what is on their signage at the bus stops as well...
