People win new Sturt Street bus stop

16 September 2011

An extra bus stop on Sturt Street will make it more convenient for residents and tourists to catch buses in Townsville's CBD.

Transport Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk said the reintroduction of buses into the precinct with the new Sturt Street bus stop will add to a number of CBD routes while the redevelopment takes place.

"We need to make sure public transport provides residents and tourists with easy and convenient access to the city and shopping precincts while Townsville's Central Business District undergoes redevelopment," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"Local bus passengers told us they wanted a stop in Sturt Street - and we listened and acted," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"Once the major Mall and CBD projects are finished, we will roll out a new public transport strategy for the CBD, including a permanent interchange in line with the council's master plan.

Ms Palaszczuk said the new stop was the best possible interim solution for bus services and used a section of Sturt Street not immediately affected by the Mall redevelopment.

Member for Townsville, Mandy Johnstone said the new bus stop would be a welcome addition for locals and visitors.

"The extra bus stop will give passengers greater choices for accessing transport to move around this city," Ms Johnstone said.

"We have listened to feedback from the local community that the current setup isn't working, so we're taking action to improve city access.

"Townsville City Council is undertaking a long term master plan for the city centre, which will identify our public transport needs."

Passengers are urged to check changes to the following routes with Sunbus:

·205/215 City Mall, Stanley Street to Stockland via Garbutt

·206 Pallarenda to City Mall, Stanley Street

·208 City Mall, Stanley Street to Willows via Hospital/University

·209 City Mall, Stanley Street to Willows via Hospital/University/Stockland via Wulguru.

The new services start from Monday 26 September.
Half baked projects, have long term consequences ...

Riiighhhtt, so the Queensland Transport Minister now announces a "new bus stop" - a what did you say??? A new bus stop - I mean seriously, 30-40yrs back, the Minister opened mainline electrification, opened a new interchange etc - now, in WORLD CLASS Qld, it's come down to "a new bus stop" in Townsville  ::)

Enjoy your "new bus stop" everyone in Townsville - LIVE THE DREAM!

Ps. "Local bus passengers told us they wanted a stop in Sturt Street - and we listened and acted," Ms Palaszczuk said.

Where would you start pulling that gem apart!   :-r    Kinda like, I went to my Dr and told him, "my left knee hurts" and well, right in front of my eyes, my Dr grabs hold of my knee - the SAME left one - and the next thing he's doing tests and taking some xrays - now after some treatment, my left knee doesn't hurt anymore!  It's incredible.....
SEQ, where our only "fast-track" is in becoming the rail embarrassment of Australia!   :frs:

Mr X

now the real question is, will it have a government plaque?
