As per http://translink.com.au/travel-information/service-updates/bulletin/1315535623
Brisbane's newest CityCat terminal - Northshore Hamilton - will be open for services from Sunday 2 October.
Services will run regularly over the weekend, and during peak hours, Monday to Friday.
A new timetable will be available soon.

As it is written, it would appear weekday services will only operate during peak hours? Good to see Bretts Wharf is still operating.

Interesting, Brett's is a fairly significant interchange between the bus and CityCat network.  I wonder if TL are going to make a bus connection to Northshore somehow?  I also can't imagine the local Hamilton residents being very happy about their loss of a CityCat terminal.

It's quite a walk from Northshore to Bretts

somebody

I think the CityCat should stop at Tenerriffe rather than Oxford St to allow interchange to the CItyGlider.

Not sure why Bretts Wharf would be closing.

+199 +470

Although with the 199 and Glider both running at high frequency, I wonder if the 470 has a point any longer?  The parts of Tenerrife it services are only a short walk to one or the other.

Can you imagine the outcry for Bulimba residents if you axed their cat though?  >:D

That is the problem now...you can't take anything away from anyone because they'll cry about it, so it makes it really difficult to implement service improvements in the way the should be done.

Honestly I don't know what the answer is.  Bulimba carries a lot of pax, you just gotta be there from 6:30am-8am in morning peak to see that.

Bulimba30A

The citycat is the only viable transport option in Bulimba for a lot of people, buses are pathetic and the congestion on Hawthorne and Wynnum rds can get ridiculous.

What's wrong with the cross river ferry + CityGlider option?

Changing services makes commuters cry  :'(

Besides, CityCat is much faster than cross river + Glider (23 minutes vs 35-40 minutes Bulimba to City).

Also, Glider is not suggested by the Journey Planner because the wretched thing doesn't have a timetable.

I might have to try this option out one day to see how long it takes.  35-40 minutes seems like a long time.

its about 30min on a good day to the city on the 230 anyway

But would be probably 10 minutes faster via the Storey Bridge.

Bretts closes at Christmas I understand

Surely not? I thought the whole point of a Hamilton Northshore ferry terminal was because Brett's Wharf is a bit of an ask for people to walk. You'd just have the same problem in reverse, though I guess less so as Hamilton probably is the more important of the two (and much nicer).

My understanding was that the Cats will eventually stop at Teneriffe, they just need to upgrade it first.

Somebody may wish to correct me, but I believe the CityCat will be replacing the cross river ferry here by stopping on both sides.

Journey Planner does suggest Glider for me:

Start
Take ferry    TNRF - Crossriver Ferry - Bulimba to Teneriffe    5 minutes
7.35am    from     Bulimba Ferry Terminal    Bulimba Ferry Terminal, Oxford St, Bulimba
7.40am    arrive   Teneriffe Ferry Terminal    Teneriffe Ferry Terminal, Commercial Rd, Newstead
Walk    50 m
Take bus    GLIDER - Cityglider - Pre-Paid Only - West End Via Valley/City    21 minutes
7.50am    from     Teneriffe Ferry    Teneriffe Ferry - 16, Commercial Rd far side of Skyring Tce
8.11am    arrive   Adelaide St opposite City Hall (Stop 43)    City Hall Adelaide Street Stop 43, Adelaide St far side of Albert St

(sorry for the awful formatting).

36 minutes for this particular trip.  23 minutes Bulimba to Riverside.  Assuming you make a good connection at the Glider side.  I know technically the Cross River Ferry has a timetable, but I've always found it a bit random.

Bretts closes at Christmas it's the reason Alastair went halves in Tank restaurant I understand it was closed due to the land being resumed.

jouzocha

I know Brett's Wharf restaurant is closing.  I didn't know the CityCat terminal was going as well though.  Couldn't they just rename it to Hamilton or something?

Fattious

It's always a lot cheaper to have a land developer pay the bulk of a terminal cost than having to rebuild an existing one fully out of government pocket.

Mozz, where are you getting your info from re: closure of Bretts Wharf Terminal?

I had to have a laugh at the Translink page (http://translink.com.au/travel-information/services-and-timetables/event-transport/details/518) suggesting to use the journey planner to find Bus and Train services to get to northshore riverside park for the opening...  ::)

For what its worth, the KSD upgrade options depict a new Bretts Wharf terminal where the restaurant currently is; better aligned with the end of Racecourse Road.  This would also make a good spot for a small bus terminus/interchange.

So the new timetable and ferry network maps have now been posted.

Network Map: http://translink.com.au/resources/travel-information/maps/111002-ferry-network.pdf

New Timetable: http://translink.com.au/resources/travel-information/services-and-timetables/timetables/111002-citycat.pdf

By the new timetable, Apollo Rd to Northshore Hamilton takes 6 minutes. However, can anyone explain the service pattern to me? Northshore is getting 1 ferry per hour in the morning and evening peak but nothing during the day expect on weekends between 9am and 4pm. The weekend services are just an extension of the usual service, but the weekday ones only stop at Northshore Hamilton, Apollo Road and then Riverside.

More than that stop deserves frankly.  At present, this terminal is little better than the Brisbane Forest Park extension on the 385.  It serves a small park and has no real commuter function at present, even as a park and ride.

The terminal makes perfect sense in the context of the Hamilton Northshore UDA Development Scheme, as there will be high-density resi buildings right next to it - they just don't exist yet.  I have no issue with them having built the terminal now and getting at least some use from it for daytrippers.

Great point, for the first time ever PT has been thought about in a development and put in before it is needed, This is what should be happening at flagstone.

Golliwog

Fair point about hte justification of the 1/hour, though I still don't get the express bit. Why have it only serving Northshore, Apollo Rd and Riverside? Or is it just something about how busy Apollo Rd is that time of morning?

New CityCat terminal to open on Sunday

Brisbane's newest CityCat terminal will open next Sunday.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk yesterday unveiled the $5 million Northshore Hamilton CityCat terminal, that will see ferry services extended further downstream.

The terminal, located on Macarthur Avenue, was funded by the state government via the Urban Land Development Authority and jointly delivered by the Brisbane City Council.

Its design, which is based on a shipping container, was inspired by the history of the site. It features a dual-berth pontoon, a waiting area with 24 seats and a sheltered ramp.

The terminal is within the Northshore Hamilton Urban Development Area, a special 304-hectare precinct between Kingsford Smith Drive and the Brisbane River and between Bretts Wharf and the Gateway Motorway.

The Northshore Hamilton Riverside Shuttle ferry will service all stops between Northshore Hamilton and Apollo Road at Bulimba and then run express to the Riverside terminal.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk yesterday seized the opportunity to renew his call for the state government to re-introduce daily travel tickets on ferry services.

He said daily tickets were necessary to ensure ferry travel was affordable for residents, and tourists in particular.

The state government scrapped weekly, daily and monthly tickets in an attempt to force commuters to take up electronic Go Cards.

"Our ferries are as important for tourism as they are in reducing traffic congestion and with council investing heavily in important ferry infrastructure, the state government really needs to ensure services are affordable as well if we're going to maximise its benefits," he said.

Construction of the new ferry terminal at Teneriffe has recently begun and is due to be completed by the end of the year.

Brisbane City Council will host a free public barbecue from 10am to 1pm at the Northshore Hamilton terminal to celebrate is opening on October 2.

I think a pedestrian and cycle bridge here (Bulimba to Newstead) would significantly open up new viable alternatives for Bulimba residents.

NORTHSHORE ADDS NEW LIFE TO CITYCATS

Brisbane's iconic CityCats service will be even better from Sunday, with new and expanded services out of the new $5 million Northshore Hamilton ferry terminal at Northshore Riverside Park.

The terminal was wholly-funded by the Queensland Government, through the Urban Land Development Authority, and handed over to Brisbane City Council in September.

Transport Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk encouraged people to get along to the open day this Sunday to check out the new terminal and catch one of the new Bligh Government funded Citycat services.

"CityCats are so iconic to Brisbane and this terminal will provide great services for the growing northern suburbs including Hamilton and the surrounding area," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"This will give residents, tourists and visitors a relaxing, cheap zone-two fare ($3.11) into the city that avoids the traffic along Kingsford Smith Drive.

"There will be three express services leaving Northshore every mo rning and afternoon with weekend services running from 8.56am through to 4.01pm."

Ms Palaszczuk recently approved $1.74 million to fund services for the 17th and 18th CityCats (Walan and Mudherri).

"With this new ferry terminal and funding for additional citycats, we're making sure the people of Brisbane get the public transport services they deserve," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"People can now travel even further down the river and more frequently to Northshore Hamilton.

"What better way to get to work than on a relaxing, traffic-free, river cruise."

Ms Palaszczuk said the CityCat and CityFerry timetables had been updated to reflect the new services at Brisbane's newest river terminal and also to cater for tourists and weekend users.
