Changes to Brisbane Transport city bus stops

On Tuesday 28 January, there will be changes to two city bus stops serviced by Brisbane Transport buses, to accommodate construction at the former Supreme Court site and new arrangement of bus stops.

North Quay stop 111 near Adelaide Street and Adelaide Street stop 16 near George Street will be closed.

Buses

(Won't bother linking all the images, there's a number of them).

-----------------------

412 change is a net positive given it no longer has to make that turn from George Street on to the Ann Street on ramp (it was always lots of fun though, getting almost violently taken in to the turn ;D), but still a turn from Roma Street to Ann Street, not to mention that stop is really quite removed from the rest of the network (but not much more than Stop 16 was). Handy to Roma Street too.
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

Golliwog

Interesting that they don't just do this a week early and make the change with all the other changes happening on the 20th.

Still with the 109 now also removed from Stop 16, it wouldn't surprise me if this change for the 412 becomes permanent. Only bug I can see is that now the stop for those wanting to go from the 412 to a train at Roma St is much more convenient (I only ever used the 412 like this late in the evenings when the UQ Lakes stop was inactive, but there are many parts of campus that walking to the Lakes stop wouldn't make much sense for) that there isn't an equally convenient stop for those wanting to go from a train at Roma St to the 412.

The only possibility for that with these current changes is if they ensure every bus runs the city part as a loop and buses may just dwell a little at one or the other stop in the CBD to keep to timetable and will only run out of service from the St Lucia end. Unlikely though. Still, net positive for the 412 I think.

A solution could be to change it again in the future to run onto the busway behind the Fire Station and terminate at either KGS or QSBS.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

James

I personally think it should become permanent. Its probably now got the best routing out of all the 4xx routes. No faffing around after the Cultural Centre (a la 4xx expresses), no funny turns (4xx Adelaide St services) and no issues around Cribb Street (444). The new terminus is close to KGSBS (in fact, 133m from the 444 stop), closer to Roma St inbound and has better access to Ann Street. Stop location leaves a little to be desired, but it's not in the middle of nowhere any more.

The fact that access Roma Street - St Lucia is poor doesn't bug me. Most of the time I just catch a train to Toowong (or 444 to Auchenflower) - not much of an inconvenience, unless travelling with suitcases. In which case the pre-existing arrangements are already annoying anyway. Came from the Airtrain once during peak, and had to take a suitcase from Central all the way to Adelaide Street. No fun at all...
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

Golliwog

Actually, rethinking it, pretty much every time I did that was after the Sector one rail timetable changes where the fluffed the Ipswich-FG line connection (the FG train was timetabled to leave Roma St at basically the same time as the inbound Ipswich line service arrived leaving a lovely 30 minute wait if you were unlucky) but while I haven't checked it during CRG's I believe this poor connection was mentioned and while they obviously can't guarantee a good connection between all lines they have changed this to having the Ipswich line service scheduled to arrive at RS 4 minutes before the FG service so a Toowong transfer would probably now make sense.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

SurfRail

When was the last bus network upgrade following Gold Coast light rail opening on 21 July 2014?

Genuinely asking because I don't know, and that concerns me for a few reasons.

It seems almost unprecedented to have gone so long without anything even halfway noticeable.

You are kidding right?   :frs:

I just see a major film being made and that naturally requires road closures since the filmmakers have decided to use the CBD.  With road closures come bus diversions.  I'm fine with it, plus there's a chance of seeing Chris Hemsworth!  :-c

ozbob

Glad you do, many don't think major disruptions to the Cbd for 4 days is really in the best interests of the community. A day or two maybe but 4 days is a bit rich. I recall a major film being filmed at top of George and QUT which was 2 days.

More P142 trips from the City to Browns Plains

From Tuesday 28 January, we're adding two additional afternoon trips on the P142 Brisbane City to Browns Plains (via Greenbank RSL) service.

The new trips will run Monday to Friday, from Creek and Mary Street, at the following times:

Creek St stop 149A, Brisbane City - 3.45pm and 4.15pm
Mary St stop 169, near Albert Street, Brisbane City - 3.55pm and 4.25pm

The addition of the new P142 trips will mean there's a bus to the Greenbank RSL park 'n' ride every 5-15 minutes between 3.30pm and 5.40pm, weekdays.*

If you need to travel beyond Greenbank, to the Park Ridge park 'n' ride, you'll still have access to route P546 Brisbane City to Park Ridge. It is expected the additional P142 services will help ease overcrowding on board route P546.

*Combined service frequency of routes P142 and P546.
