Announced at CRG Sunshine Coast Meeting tonight.
Ozbob's efforts to highlight the poor signage of many rail station names is successful !
All signs will be fixed within 23 days by QR's Network Asset Management Team.

Anecdoetally, I have noticed at some of the FG line stations their signs are the new ones (eg: pretty sure the one Ozbob put up of Wilston in the Where is it? thread has been fixed for a bit now), so this may have already been going on. Still, a definate plus.

A good amount of Caboolture line has been done as well. Has Anyone else noticed the change in font size on some of the new signage (ie. Gaythorne-Windsor)? Makes it much more legible than the smaller italicised lettering (ie. Mitchelton, Inner City).

Typical government thinking " We knew it was a good idea!"
"Where else but Queensland?"

That will be a "Auto fit" based on size so their will be some slight differences (eg: longer words = smaller text).

No, its definately a totally different font size and style. Much more legible.

SurfRail

It appears they have updated the style manual again.

I would honestly have preferred that busway and railway signage was consistent, but at least the newer format is quite legible.  Hopefully this will replace all existing signage not in the current version for consistency.

Saw new signs at Sherwood and Chelmer on my way home today! Nice to see that they are finally getting replaced. Pity about the differing font sizes though.

I've also seen the majority of the Beenleigh line stations having their signs replaced recently as well

WTN

Buranda had its signs replaced. I can't remember whether they had the old italicised signs though. I also find the newer (non-italic) font more readable than italics.

Mrs Ozbob was pleased to let me know today that Gailes and Wacol have new signs.  She said it helps a lot to know where the train is.

Indeed yes, even more so also when our Sunshine Coast peak trains arrive home in the dark.

I'll check out what other stations require signage revamps on the NCL and post them here.
Happy to help QR out on this one.

Hello All,

Palmwoods Station signage changed over the weekend.  :-t

Picture here (old peeling signage) taken on Friday morning August 19, 2011 (using the time I had waiting for the train - I ended up getting a lift to Caboolture).

New signage format in place.
Well done QR !

Ours was still legible so I hadn't added it to my list requiring attention above.

Arnz

Elimbah to Landsborough now has the current TransLink signage, with the current font style.

The first generation TransLink signs for Elimbah and Beerburrum only lasted a few years.  I wonder if the other stations with first generation TransLink (eg part of the Beenleigh line, Varsity Lakes, etc) signs were also replaced with the current TransLink signs.
Rgds,
Arnz

Unless stated otherwise, Opinions stated in my posts are those of my own view only.

Oxley has had it's first generation TransLink signs replaced with the newer ones. It seems that they are a dying breed.

Stillwater

New signage has gone up at stations north of Nambour.  Cooroy is lucky, as it gets to keep its old illuminated signage while sporting new, non-illuminated signage (makes you know where you are at night.)

I believe oxford park still has its gray translink ones (FG line)

SurfRail

Nothing much happening on the Beenleigh/GC corridor at present.  All the worst offenders have been dealt with though (eg the "Ho m ie " sign at Holmview and the "Coo    " sign at Coomera).

At least we don't have the problem that Hove Station in Adelaide does - add one vertical line to the end...

Isn't it funny. We raised this at a CRG. I reckon somebody must've read the minutes and been like "Please Explain"......Too much of a coincidence.
Not complaining anyway.

Now, I do hope that this is the last graphical change the signs ever have. It needs to be that they just adopt one style manual, and keep it forever.
Its like how in London, a circle with a bar through it represents PT, and all the stations use this exact design, and have done so for basically a lifetime.

I'd like to think in 50 years time, the spinny wheel will still be the symbol for PT in SEQ. It just wastes money to be like say Melbourne, and change signs for the sake of change, but not actually benefit passengers.

ozbob

Taringa, still to be done. Probably will be as part of the upgrade.

A reliable source told me that the main reason for the sign upgrades was the removal of the old QR logos ...
Still good news to have them looking neat and well presented.

Park Rd was being done this morning when I passed through. Saw the QR guy carring a stack of new signs from their van to the platforms.

Come rain, hail, hell or high water, the deadline is the end of the month.  It looks like they will make it.  If not, a couple of days delay due to bad weather deserves the good graces of commuters.

Isn't it amazing a month ago we were told changing the signs was impossible. Why are we held in contempt?
"Where else but Queensland?"

Gazza

They never said it was impossible from memory, just that it took a while since, despite their appearance, the sign boxes aren't actually a standardised design, so each station had to be measured up.
PS, Toowong got done, and they finally even replaced the one with the old Blue QR signage that was outside the station near the ANZ.

ozbob

Few more ...
