Media Release 9th September 2006
Make Public Transport Free For All Residents

RAIL ? Back On Track (http://backontrack.org)  a web based community organisation for the promotion of rail throughout Australia has suggested that the practical solution to grid lock, escalating fuel costs, environmental problems including global warming, and wasted long term expenditure on potentially useless road and tunnel infrastructure, is to make public transport free for all Brisbane residents.  This policy should also be considered for all states.

Robert Dow said that

?The article in today?s Brisbane Courier Mail - City grinds to a halt, highlights the need to change peoples habits.  If public transport was funded from general rates, people would use it.  Commensurate with this is the necessary implementation of accessible public transport running 24 hours, and at high timetable frequency during the day and evening.?

?Imagine the savings to be made at all levels.  This is a real SMART State move.?
