BRISBANE City Council has flagged five new designs to replace Riverwalk which was washed from its moorings at the height of the floods.

Ranging from an identical replacement to walks hugging the bank, the options cost anywhere from $54 million to $75 million.

The most expensive option would cost a further $66.6 million for maintenance over the next 100 years.

Council will officially unveil the designs today before consulting homeowners and body corporate groups along the riverbank, and the community.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said construction would start early in 2013 and would be completed by mid-2014.

The Federal and State governments would cover $75 million of the cost.

"I am conscious that many residents want to see a cost-effective replacement delivered while maintaining its famous views, which is why we have put forward five different options for the community to give their views on," Cr Quirk said.

Factors such as cost, environment, construction and flood impacts would be considered before an option was chosen.

"I want to see the best value for money delivered and am mindful that we need to consider the yearly price of maintaining the structure as there will be no reimbursement of these costs," he said.

Half baked projects, have long term consequences ...
