Hello All,

I had an interesting conversation from someone within Queensland Rail last week who told me that QR are the only rail provider in the country
to provide alternative transport (i.e either buses or taxis) when things go awry on the network.

Is this true, and if so what are the differences in the way delays are handled in other states and territories ?

*NO*.  NO.  And No.

When things go wrong on CityRail, alternative transport arrangements are always arranged.  Also notice the Regional Rail works in Vic which had buses provided.  I'm sure I've seen reports of this occurring in Perth also.

I think this person was smoking some pretty potent stuff when he said this.

Doesn't seem to make sense.

Perth has back up buses too- in fact they also have route numbers- 900 series.
Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

The Melbourne Metro network (and V/Line) rolls out buses in the same way as Queensland Rail when major disruptions or closures (eg. trackwork).
Half baked projects, have long term consequences ...

Is it possible that he was referring to taxis only?  QR will definitely spring for these in selected circumstances (eg when the last service of the day fails, or for unplanned disruptions to Airtrain services where connections to flights are important).

Hello All,

No, she/he was referring to any modes of alternative travel, both buses and taxis.

To summarise:
Melbourne Metro network (and V/Line) rolls out buses in a similar fashion to QR.
Perth has back up buses too - in fact they also have route numbers - 900 series.
CityRail (NSW Transport) has alternative transport options.

Thank you to all for the information - rest assured I will pass the above information on and correct their misconception.
