QuoteNSW Minister for Roads Duncan Gay today announced the opening of a new bus
layover at Cammeray.
"The new bus layover has been successfully up and running for the last week and is
helping to reduce congestion around the city by taking buses off the road when they
are not in service," said Mr Gay.
"A section of the Warringah Freeway was widened on the eastern side and the Miller
Street on-ramp was relocated closer to the Cammeray Golf Course in order to make
way for it.
"Previously we had the ridiculous situation where buses, in particular Hills M2 buses,
had to circle busy city streets while waiting for their service routes to commence.
"The layover provides parking spaces for at least 30 buses and is helpful in relieving
congestion around Wynyard station, particularly in the busy peak hour periods."
Mr Gay said that having the bus waiting area so close to the city meant buses could
spend less time on the road on their way to pick up customers, which helps with
travel flow and on-road costs.
"This facility will enable buses to reach the CBD within 12 minutes," he said.
"It will improve the reliability and efficiency of buses operating on the M2 motorway
and help cater for future growth in M2 bus patronage."
Last year, M2 bus services moved 14,598 passengers a day – an increase of
approximately 90 per cent on the 7,688 passengers carried in 2006.
Construction of the bus waiting area involved widening a section of the Warringah
Freeway on the eastern side and re-locating the on-ramp from Miller Street closer to
the Cammeray Golf Course.
The space created by this work will house the bus waiting area without affecting
existing traffic lanes or bus lanes.

Hmm, all the M2 buses combined carry in a day about what the Ipswich line carries in the AM peak.
