There is a rubber mat and what looks to be sockets for poles that hold the lineup tape at the airports ans what not on platform 4, toowong end of Milton station. Any ideas?

Rubber matting? A picture would help, i would be speculating but it could be a electrical work matting that also supports putting polling stuff in to "rope" off the area but I don't think the QR electrical guys usually use those mats...

I should have taken a photo of it.

Its not covering anything. Just a rubber mat maybe a meter wide, bordering on the yellow safety line.

In it are steel metal what looks to be recepticals for barrier poles.

Ahhhh, now I get it... If it is what I think it is...

They're trialling a little barricade thing for platform staff during special events at Suncorp so the staff are not in danger of being pushed onto the tracks by the crowds. Would have been another 3 or 4 of them along the entire platform.

That would probably be it. It was not in use last night after the state of origin.
