^ No, but we received a Noise Notice in the post last week.  :-t

I can only assume that the bridge must have been seriously endangered by numerous bridge strikes or else these works wouldn't be happening.

The road under the Palmwoods bridge will be closed off from Sunday 12th August to Tuesday 14th August, 2012.

Couriermail --> Trucks getting stuck under rail bridges at a rate of one a week

Quote... NOT even the installation of laser detectors has been enough to stop trucks getting stuck under rail bridges at a rate of more than one a week in the past year.

Footage provided by Transport and Main Roads shows how flashing warning signs at sites in Indooroopilly and Corinda are being ignored by truck drivers - with dire consequences.

In the 12 months to June 30, the number of rail bridge strikes almost doubled - jumping from 33 the previous year to 60 - resulting in more than 200 train service delays or cancellations.

The increase came despite the addition of infrared laser detectors at eight of the most at-risk locations to read the height of approaching trucks and issue a warning ...

^ Note the ' near miss ' with the industrial digger swinging following the strike and just misses a car ...

#Metro

I don't tend to like mandating exacting solutions as technology changes very quickly.
Increase the fines again so there is incentive to install devices for drivers to avoid things. There is no reason why these locations could not be coded into GPS and an alarm go off with the GPS the same way that notifications for speed cameras on the roads are programmed into some models.

I'm not sure where or how fines are handed out, but similar to RSA (responsible service of alcohol) legislation, not only can the company be fined but individuals in their personal capacity be fined as well. These fines, provided they are set at a revenue maximising level, can then generate the funds to pay for safety upgrades (tell tales and cross beams) at these locations so that it is self-rectifying.

$10 000 fine x 1 strike/week x 52 weeks = $520 000 per year; plenty of funds for construction!
Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

How much would $520,000 pay for?

See OP for this thread. $1M got height protection of various forms at 6 locations.

Ms Nolan said height gauges would be installed at the following six locations by early October:

· Pine Street, Wynnum (Cleveland line)

· Park Road, Woolloongabba (Gold Coast/Ipswich lines)

· Sherwood Road, Rocklea (interstate rail line)

· Long Street East, Graceville (Ipswich line)

· Sylvan Road, Toowong (Ipswich line)

· Pickering Street, Gaythorne (Ferny Grove line).

Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

4BC Drive:There have been calls for better height restriction warnings after yet another truck struck the under-side of the Ipswich Motorway at Goodna.

Robert Dow from Rail Back on Track tells Gary Hardgrave changes must be made to the bridge the truck hit.
