War veterans and their families to travel free on Anzac Day

The Queensland Government will honour war veterans and celebrate the return of CityCat services with free public transport offers this Anzac Day.

Transport Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk said veterans in uniform and their spouses attending dawn services across South East Queensland on Anzac Day (Monday, April 25) can travel for free on all public transport services.

"This includes those marching on behalf of a veteran along with children who are members of the Scouts, Girl Guides or military associations participating in official proceedings," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"We want to make it as easy as possible for people to attend commemorative ANZAC services right across city and beyond."

The Queensland Government will also join with the Brisbane City Council to welcome back the CityCat services by offering free travel for everyone on all river services on the Anzac Day holiday.

"I hope as many people as possible can make it to the dawn service and afterwards take advantage of a cruise along the Brisbane River," Ms Palaszczuk.

Extra trains and buses will operate for people wanting to attend the 4am dawn service at Anzac Square in the Brisbane CBD.

There will also be extra trains on the Nambour, Caboolture, Gold Coast, Ipswich/Rosewood, Cleveland, Shorncliffe and Ferny Grove lines (including buses).

Extra buses will run on routes 103 (Inala - Darra), 111 (Eight Mile Plains), 130 (Algester), 140 (Browns Plains), 150 (Browns Plains), 199 (Teneriffe - West End), 200 (Carindale), 333 (Chermside), 345 (Aspley), 385 (The Gap) and 444 (Moggill).
