Media Release 31st August 2006
More carriages for City Train

RAIL ? Back On Track (http://backontrack.org)   a web based community organisation for the promotion of rail throughout Australia strongly supports the Labor policy announced today of building an extra 60 carriages for use on the City Train network.

Robert Dow, on behalf of RAIL Back On Track said:

?A commitment to fast-track an extra 60 carriages additional to the 72 carriages currently under construction is a welcome and overdue announcement.  This will allow for an increase in frequency of suburban passenger trains on the Gold Coast, Caboolture and Ipswich lines in particular, where trains are often very heavily loaded with passengers.  There is also a requirement for an increase in the number of train drivers and guards to allow for maximum utilisation of the new rolling stock.?

?An increase in services on the Gold Coast line will also afford the opportunity of increasing the service frequency on the Airtrain City Link as well.  Traffic congestion to and from Brisbane Airport is a serious issue. An increased frequency of Airtrain services to the airport will encourage more passengers to opt for the sensible and sustainable solution for transport to and from the airport.?
