SEQ: Core Frequent Network: BUZ 245 Manly Station via Wynnum & Manly Roads

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport commuters has called for a BUZ 245 to Manly rail station along Wynnum & Manly Roads.

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"Main arterial roads such as Wynnum Rd are well suited for 'ready made' rapid bus services. RAIL Back on Track calls for the consideration of a BUZ 245 to Manly Station via Wynnum Road to take advantage of Wynnum Road's arterial status and provide a trunk route service to the Eastern and Bayside areas where there isn't ready access to the Cleveland line rail."

"Our proposed BUZ 245 would run from the CBD to Woollongabba station, up Wellington/Latrobe streets (or alternatively via Fortitude Valley & Story Bridge) (1), along Wynnum and Manly Roads to Manly Rail station. This would allow stops outside Morningside Rail station, Cannon Hill Shopping Centre, Tingalpa, along Manly road where there are many new housing developments all the way to Manly Rail station where it could terminate and turn around using Ernest St, Mountjoy Tce and Manly station bus exit."

"The beauty of a 'ready-made' core frequent network is that instead of the planners trying to second guess everyone's movements across 23 zones and 7 regions using Go Card data, people can instead be offered a standard core frequent network enabling additional destinations and 'anywhere to anywhere' travel off the direct radial routes through a single transfer."

"The BUZ network has been highly successful and should be extended along Brisbane's major arterial roads to create a core frequent network in conjunction with rail.(2,3,4) A core frequent network will allow the future creation of a 'trunk and feeder' services from a reorganisation of existing bus routes in the Eastern and Bayside area when the time comes, to feed these arterial BUZ routes and rail lines. This will save money, allow high frequency services to penetrate far into the suburbs, create a more legible and easy to understand network and improve utilisation and occupancy of rail and bus vehicles."

"This is consistent with the approach detailed in the draft Connecting SEQ 2031 plan diagrams on page 46. People will happily transfer if they are guaranteed a frequent, legible connecting service that runs with a 'no compromise' timetable 7 days per week between 6am-11.30 pm."
