Proposal: duplicate Thorneside-Wellington Point

This would not allow increased service frequencies off peak.  Throwing in Manly-Lota would allow 20 minute frequency, but I think the priority needs to be pushing for 15 minute frequency to Manly (maybe Lota) rather than 20 minutes all the way.  They wouldn't do 10 minute frequency to Manly.

The reason to do this would be to improve the reliability of the line in the peak.  A number of commuters on the line are pretty unhappy with the single track.  I think doing this would allow for a timetable which has operating margin and is therefore reasonably reliable.

Any comments?

#Metro

A good idea, but for the expense, I think may as well go the whole hog and do something that will have utility outside of just peak hour- like duplicate it as far as it needs to go to give 15 minute bidirectional frequency in the off-peak.

It is small capacity 'unlocking' projects like this that I would rather see money spent on than metros in the CBD.

Does require duplicating the two bridges between Thorneside and Lota, I think.  Perhaps you could get away with duplicating WP-Ormiston and/or Ormiston-Cleveland and leaving the single track bridges.  I haven't looked at that in much detail.
