Sunshine Coast Line again. Terrible...

QuoteFOR the next three months a dark cloud will hang over the head of Petra McDonald.

The Kenilworth mother-of-two sat on a syringe which had been discarded on a Brisbane train last month.

She now faces an agonising wait to see if she has contracted any life-threatening diseases such as Hepatitis B and C.

Although doctors have advised the chance of contracting HIV is low, between 0.4% and 0.8%, the mere thought is terrifying.

The 33-year-old administration assistant had just been to visit her uncle at Wesley Hospital at Auchenflower with her mum and dad.

The trio had decided to head into Central Station and grab a bite to eat before travelling back to Sunshine Coast.

Okay, now we know the main reasoning behind the mobile on-train cleaning staff.  This is a responsible reaction to a very unfortunate incident.  We should all have some thought for the staff themselves, who have to deal with needles and sharps all the time.

I've been pricked before on a train. There was a sewing needle stuck into the seat back so it's point was facing anyone who would have sat down and leant back onto it. When I leant forward and then pulled it out, the girl sitting across from me was all "WTF?"  Apparently there are some stupid b@$!@rds out there who aim to hurt others.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

An interesting sidebar to this story is that it illustrates, albeit indirectly, the wide catchment served by the Sunshine Coast Line.  The unfortunate woman involved in this needle stick injury was from Kelilworth.  It would seem that she and other members of her family drove to Nambour to catch a train to Brisbane.  Had there been a train stabling facility at Yandina with regular train services extended there, their round trip to access the train would have been 28km shorter.
