Sunday Mail (SA): Government draft report shows new vision for Adelaide's future

TRAMS in the east, high-rises and new inner-suburban shopping precincts are proposed in a State Government report that appears to be a new masterplan for Adelaide.

The 162-page draft report - obtained by the Sunday Mail  - proposes the "revitalising of Greater Adelaide" by backfilling suburbs with townhouses and multi-storey apartments above shopping strips and cafes and turning public transport stops into vibrant hubs...

The draft Inner Metro Rim Structure Plan Final Report, by leading architectural and design firm Hassell, also proposes surrounding the Adelaide Parklands with walls of developments up to 14 storeys high.

Key elements of the draft report, which will act as a complementary document to the state's 30-year plan, include:

A NEW O-Bahn station at Walkerville;

TRAM services along Unley Rd, Prospect Rd and The Parade;

REDEVELOPMENT of Keswick Army Barracks to support residential, retail and commercial development;

NEW high streets, community hubs and commercial precincts;

NEW wetlands in the south-east corner of the parklands;

EXTENSIVE pedestrian and cycling pathways.
