Cleaning trains during the day

I heard the other day that cleaners are going to be employed to clean trains during the day (rather than just overnight).  I understand that they'll be on trains while they're in service.  This will make sure they're nice and clean before the afternoon peak.

Let's call it a rumour at this stage.   :D

"Excuse me, madam.  I am the cleaner, would you mind removing your bag from the floor so I can clean those papers.  If I can just get in there to spray and wipe the windows.  I hope the spray won't be too offensive to your nostrils.  Please take your feet off the seat.  I have to clean up after people like you.  I can't take my backpack vacuum in there, boss, that's the quiet car.  Excuse me, excuse me, cleaner coming through, make way for my rubbish bin."

I can see a few problems.

Given the amount of time that trains dwell at termini, then these would be the better places to clean trains. London Underground has teams of cleaners at each terminus which seems to work well.

Sounds like the most logical time to clean them would be when the trains terminate at Ipswich/Caboolture/Beenleigh/Cleveland/Ferny Grove and what not. Otherwise its too impractical to clean them during transit between stations. Me thinks it would only be station staff, drivers and the guards that would quickly walk through and clean them of papers, food wrappers and so on rather than the usual night crew as they go to change ends for the return run back.

I think it would be quite sensible to make use of the idle time spent at the terminus. Even a quick clean of rubbish left at the end of the run make a difference, especially in peak hour when trains are littered with newspapers. I've seen a guard once remove some of those papers. The complete clean can be done later.

I'd like to see MX contribute to the added cost of the cleaners. Add to the rubbish, pay for the rubbish. Having said that, I always leave my newspaper on the seat (neatly) for the next traveller to read. My contribution to recycling.

The 26-person squad will start work next month travelling throughout the network conducting "spot-checks" on carriages, which are already cleaned daily.

Has anyone seen cleaning crews on the trains during the day?  How's it working?

I don't see anything wrong with someone walking through the carriage holding a garbage bag picking up any large trash that's easily accessable.

I'm sure we don't expect vacuuming to occur during the day, but even just a spot collection of rubbish would be helpful.

CityRail have been doing it for at least 10 years.

Haven't seen it in Brisbane.

Try about 54 years on the Sydney network for in service cleaners.

Friday+Saturday nights are a big one as well. Arguably worse since there is usually more than just the mX strewn through the carriages.

SEQ, where our only "fast-track" is in becoming the rail embarrassment of Australia!   :frs:

They've been on post Caboolture peak afternoon trains heading back as Ipswich bound trains this week.

My train was cleaned today. Really is fairly basic, just a couple of workers with a big plastic bag wandering up the train picking up what they can and offering to passengers if they have any trash.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
