Hello All,

State Government members of Parliament; Andrew Powell MP, Member for Glass House
and Tracey Davis MP, Member for Aspley (in her role as Shadow Public Transport Minister)
are organising a day on the trains.  :-t

They will spend the day travelling from Nambour to Caboolture, and return, including the Rail bus services to discuss commuter concerns.
Stay tuned for more details.

:lo

They must be feeling a bit sheepish about not calling the public meeting that they promised.

I suppose if you asked the obvious question: 'what will the opposition do about duplication to Nambour?'  you would get a politician's answer: 'well, that is why we are here today, we want to get people's views before we finalise our policy.  That's the trouble with Rachel Nolan, she didn't listen to the people and she had to be sidelined.  LNP will listen to the people.'

Please, it can't be as shallow as that, could it?

Let's all sing together:

BATTLE CRY OF THE (SUNSHINE COAST) COMMUTER

(Sung to the tune of the Battle Hymn of the Republic: http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/b/h/bhymnotr.htm)

The voice of discontentment,
it comes roaring down the track.
It is honed by broken promises.
We won't be looking back.
We come marching from green  valleys
and from beaches far and wide.
With justice by our side.

We demand an equality
that's given us by birth.
It's for better transport services;
from that we won't divert.
We'll resist the TransLink menace
That's put us on alert.
We won't be crushed to dirt.

Chorus:
Angry, Angry is our war cry
Victory is ours, do or die
From tyranny we expose the lie
This timetable must change

We have seen the vision splendid
Of the city by the sea.
Where the transportation rapidly
Connects you to me.
We will trample any government
That shows its lethargy.
Stamp out this apathy.

The Opposition weakness
It  is there for all to see.
It is all about the empathy
And showing sympathy.
But ask about a policy
And they begin to flee,
Of ideas they are free.

Chorus:
Angry, Angry is our war cry
Victory is ours, do or die
From tyranny we expose the lie
This timetable must change

The Sunshine Coast express –
It is a lie, a fallacy.
We're sick of all the promises
That fail delivery.
We will vote for any candidate
That gives a firm decree.
Dual tracks and certainty.

Chorus:
Angry, Angry is our war cry
Victory is ours, do or die
From tyranny we expose the lie
This timetable must change

You are right SW, they didn't hold the meeting, and Transport Minister, Hon. Rachel Nolan refused to attend.

Is it that shallow ?
I would hope not SW.

I am pleased that they are becoming involved, and their support in our campaign has been a welcome boost.
To have 3 State MP's at the Nambour forum shows the level of support by our pollies, I do not know of this occurring anywhere else.
I congratulate them for it.

It's important to build a good rapport with our elected representatives.
I have found them to be both professional and guided by a desire to improve things.

I must admit that I got a big buzz out of campaigning for a better timetable for the Sunshine Coast (and it wasn't me alone, others were out there also)
knowing that there was a massive groundswell of commuter support behind us. It makes the considerable time and effort worthwhile.
I imagine that is how a politician would feel when they accomplish change.

I am hoping for a good result in the redrafted 2011 timetable for the Sunshine Coast, but worry that the Beerburrum bottleneck severly constrains what they can do.
It isn't won yet.

Politics will always be politics.
But ultimately they wouldn't be in the job if they didn't want to effect change for the better.
I am not a member of any political party - but I do accord credit where credit is due.

A meeting was promised, but not held.  It didn't require the presence of Ms Nolan to hold the meeting.  A forum-type meeting where people could air their concerns and those concerns could be documented would then allow an Opposition submission to government, or allow for some of the concerns to be put to the minister in question time.  It is interesting that, rather than hold a meeting in a public hall somewhere, where the pollies would have to stay and talk for an hour or more, collect information etc  .. they will do a fleeting 'meet and greet' on the train, with TV cameras in tow.  What's more important - to be doing something or to be seen to be doing something, as shown through the lense of a TV camera?
