SEQ: Arrangements needed before UQ semester 1 begins

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport commuters has called for a ticket vending machine to be installed at UQ Lakes bus station and for TransLink to consider boosting 192 bus services before tens of thousands of students return to UQ St Lucia for the academic year.  Additionally extending the two journey go card cap to all concession go card holders would also continue to drive public transport utilisation and assist school and university students to use public transport as first choice!

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"RAIL Back on Track suggests that a ticket vending machine be installed at UQ Lakes Bus Station in addition to the one located at Chancellors Place. Anyone who has set foot on the campus knows that the university semester puts the bus system under high loads. We think a ticket vending machine at this location would therefore be well used by students to top up go cards, which they cannot do on Brisbane Transport buses and assist the casual traveller purchase a paper ticket if needed."

"As the CityCat is indefinitely out of action for now at UQ, the only options to access West End is to catch BUZ 412 all the way into the CBD, via Coronation (Congestion) Drive or catch the infrequent 192 bus. As Coronation Drive has regular incidents where traffic is jammed and buses are caught in congestion which leads often to delays between 15 minutes to almost one hour,  TransLink needs to consider boosting 192 service frequency and scope of hours to give a service as close to that of the CityCat, like what was done with other ferry replacement buses (1). This also avoids Coronation Drive altogether."

"Certainly, there will be huge passenger demands when semester begins in a little over a weeks time, we hope TransLink will consider our requests."

Theres an announcement on TL saying that now that the ferries are back, the 2 routes they made for Bulimba and Kangaroo Point are now cancelled, but come Monday (?) they are boosting the 192 (its now running weekends) and reminding us that there is still plenty of capacity on the 412 and 109 to UQ.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

More 192 services from West End to UQ Lakes

From Monday 21 February, TransLink is increasing the number of 192 services for passengers affected by the loss of the West End to UQ CityCat service.

There will be an additional 75 services Monday to Friday, and 48 route 192 services will operate on weekends for the first time. The additional 192 services will operate only from the Mollison Street Coles via West End to UQ Lakes and connect with the CityGlider services.

These additional services will also replace the Saturday-only route 191 which operates along the same route.

The new timetable will be available shortly.

Remember, there is still plenty of capacity on other popular, high-frequency University of Queensland services from the city, such as the 109 and 412.
