What to call a BUZ outside the BCC area?

Can't use BUZ- BCC trademark. What should BUZ routes be called when outside of the BCC area (eg. on the Sunshine/Gold Coast)?
TL's HFP (High Frequency Priority) sounds very boring...

A BUZ. BCC should get over itself and allow the term to be used by Translink.  PS BCC does not own it's own routes. Translink do.

EDIT: and any other public transport authority who wants to use it. Trademarked! What a self centered and egotistical thing to do!

#Metro

To be fair, BCC did develop it at a time before TransLink existed, and it is legally their 'intellectual property'. BCC did a good job implementing something totally crazy- high frequency even at 11pm on a Sunday night- and contrary to all conventional transport planning wisdom, it actually worked spectacularly, and threw into doubt the prevailing idea that no-one is interested in traveling outside peak hour or for non-work purposes.

However, like you said, there doesn't seem to be a reason why it can't be licensed out for use elsewhere.
I suspect TL doesn't like this idea of paying at all. HFP is hardly inspiring though... so it really depends. I notice that B.Line used in Vancouver has been adopted in other places around the world. Maybe B.Line could work?

And B.line--- could imply 'BUZ line' without actually saying it!  :is- :-X

Maybe people could play around with this: JIFF (Jump-In Frequent Flyer)  Slogan -- Get There In A Jiff

However, Jiff is the name of a popular household cleaner.

#Metro

Surely though people know the difference... it would be funny if they didn't!  ;D LOL!!!

I agree, just call it a BUZ, no reason TL and BCC couldn't negotiate a little bit.

+1.

Is it really a registered trademark, that no one else could use?

They own it, but there is no reason they couldn't just let appropriate bus services use it too. BCC dont own the TL logo, but it is on their buses isn't it?

dwb

TL should just use it. IF BCC have an issue get them to take them to court. I'm sure the ratepayers would love to know that BCC was wasting money on pointscoring.

IF either of them get up, I want 5% Gross of all fares!     :hg   :hg   :hg
SEQ, where our only "fast-track" is in becoming the rail embarrassment of Australia!   :frs:

SteelPan

How about a bright RED bus with Mr whippy style music coming out of it and Kenny Koala driving it, and everyone could do a "Wiggles" style dance as the bus drives along and it could be called "TheWhackyFunBusDrivenByAnOversizedKoala" or the "TheWhackyFunBusDrivenByAnOversizedKoalaX" for limited stop peak hour services.

If the above idea gets up 1) I'll be staggered and 2) Someone else can publicly claim the idea.......   ;D

Yo dude, must have been a 'fully sick' Friday night.   :-r

What is so impossible about BCC simply revoking their trademark and allowing it to be used throughout the TL network?

Indeed ...  seems the best solution ...
Half baked projects, have long term consequences ...

Plus, its not as if TL couldn't play hardball with BT for a change (They need to do that more often)
Let us use the BUZ name, or we'll cut your funding.

A BUZ is a BUZ is a BUZ, we could change the colour to make it different

although a court could rule that it is too similar to allow it to be used.  Of course might make right is the reality of the law just look at Jetstar. The logo and name were used by a company that did pilot training

Jonno

How auto"Green Line", "blue line", yellow Lone, Logan Road Line

Sunbus610

Since Brisbane City Council (Brisbane Transport) are a bit up themselves and so protective of there BUZ term, I'd prefer to see TRANSLink come up with something different from them.

BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) appears to be one of the most utilised term for this type of bus service around the world

or perhaps TL could consider the use of letters and then a two digit route number, a bit similar to how Sydney Buses use this concept

R - Rapid bus service

R50 (rapid bus service - Ipswich to Goodna)
R55 (to maybe replace the 555)
R70 (rapid bus service Southport to Broadbeach)
R71 (rapid bus service Broadbeach to Tweed Heads)
R60 (rapid bus service - Maroochydore to Caloundra)
R62 (rapid service - Maroochydore to Noosa)
R25 (rapid service - Redland Bay to Brisbane)

X - Express bus service

X60 (express bus service - Caloundra to Maroochydore)
X62 (express bus service - Maroochydore to Noosa)
X70 (express bus service - Broadbeach to Tweed Heads)
X71 (express bus service - Southport to Broadbeach)

L - Limited stops

L27 (limited stops - Victoria Point to Brisbane)
L57 (limited stops - Springwood to Brisbane)

Just some examples I'm putting out there, please shoot me down if you think they're corny or won't work :wi3

Proud to be a Sunshine Coaster ..........

#Metro

I'm kind of against the letters in the numbering, particularly after experiences of the Adelaide (F buses?) and Canberra systems.
Its like, "what IS that?".

Words are better IMHO. "rapid bus" might just do the trick.

Nice one ButFli, but perhaps San Fransisco will sue us?

However, its really for non-brisbane areas. So SART and GART and IART hmm...

I was also thinking Must Use Non-inventive Initials (MUNI) but then I remembered Muni isn't an acronym. :D
