QuoteCoolum to Nambour Bus Trial

Council is trialing a new bus service between Coolum and Nambour. The trial service is proposed to operate four return services per day, seven days per week, from April 2011 to June 2011 initially. This new trial service is being funded by the Public Transport Levy.

Purpose

The trial will allow council to assess the level of demand for a direct service along this route, and help to determine whether the changes will meet customer needs for timeliness, efficiency and frequency.

Community engagement

You are invited to provide feedback on the proposed route alignment and timetable.

Submissions close 4.00 pm Wednesday 9 February 2011.

The suggested route alignment and timetable information are provided below.

Obviously not a Translink initiative.  They are asking for feedback!

Its a pity this service has to go along Nambour-Bli Bli Rd, Petrie Creek Rd has many houses along it with a brand new retirement castle currently being built with no PT access.

Yandina could do with better PT services.  I am not sure where the Nambour train stabling investigation is at, but locals continue to push for a stabling option involving Yandina.

Today's Sunshine Coast Daily reveals the popularity of the hinterland railway towns, as reflected in rising property valuations, as more people find the coastal areas too expensive to live.

This will result in calls for more PT services to the hinterland, including Yandina.

I can certainly see a need for urban buses to service the Coolum-Yandina Road corridor as this is another area of the coast which currently lacks any public transport at all as is the same with the Petrie Creek Road / Rosemount Road corridor :conf. The Bli Bli Road is already serviced by bus route 612, so why add another bus route to this corridor. Probably a bit of a 'pipe dream' but another suggestion might be to trial the proposed bus service in a clockwise / anti-clockwise loop service from Nambour to Coolum (refer below).

Coolum > to < Bli Bli > to < via Petrie Creek Rd / Rosemount Rd > to < Nambour > to < Yandina > to < via Coolum-Yandina Rd > to < Coolum

... and Palmwoods township.
AIUI the nearest service for our town was the one that Daniel Morcombe sadly missed, at intersection of Kiel Mtn Road and the Nambour Connection Road.
I would be happy to be corrected on this one.

I hope SCRC isn't setting itself up for failure on this one.  A few return bus trips a day is probably a less worthwhile investment than fixing potholes on Bli Bli Road!

One of the reasons the new services GCCC has championed (like the 702 extension to "GC Airport", the 747 and YourBus) have actually worked is that they are half-decent during the day.
