This stop has Four outbound services (325,335,326,327), all at a shocking hourly frequency. Have any members suggested a fix to this? (possibly a  369-style East/West route?) If they fixed up this area, there would be no excuses in terminating the 310 at Toombul,

techblitz

the good thing with Taigum is its very flexible.....similar stop layout to the pines down at Elanora....buses can pull in from any direction and loop back....but Taigum plaza is fairly spread out.....very similar to forest lake so should probably be permanently serviced from church rd north and beams rd....2 stops....

Quote from: achiruel on April 22, 2019, 19:07:32 PM
Unfortunately the 325 has absolutely horrible frequency. I wonder how hard it would be to send 330 down Newman Rd.

The 330 can easily diverted...depending if you want to veer it off that virtually straight alignment from Taigum to Chermside(suburb)

If not too fussed then an option would be to have it serve Taigum coles, aldi and the main beams rd plaza altogether...this adds an extra trip generator but could extend the route un-necessarily..

So handord(service coles, aldi) then divert east on beams to service Taigum plaza...loop back and head down church rd to Zillmere rd then it gets interesting.....either:

head west to murphy rd and its current alignment(serve Zillmere station) or east to newman rd on a new alignment(serve geebung)...
Trade-off with having the 330 on that geegung/Hamilton rd alignment is it only serves one side of westfield Chermside..

Couriermail Quest --> Work starts to provide extra carparks for commuters

QuoteThe State Government has marked the start of works to provide 340 new commuter parking spaces in Brisbane's south.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey joined Member for Springwood Mick de Brenni, Member for Mansfield Corrine McMillan and local construction crews to turn the sod on the site at Eight Mile Plains.

Mr Bailey said the upgrade would bring the number of commuter car parks at Eight Mile Plains to more than 1200.

The works are the latest in the State Government's $114 million park 'n 'ride program.

Member for Springwood Mick de Brenni said the parking would provide a huge relief for locals who accessed the Eight Mile Plains bus station every day and during special events.

"As a major hub for shuttle services to select events at the newly-built Queensland State Netball Centre and other venues, the car park upgrade is also a win for sports and event lovers," Mr de Brenni said.

"When an event is on and shuttle services are operating, all you have to simply do is park your car at Eight Mile Plains station and hop on the bus."

Construction is expected to be completed late this year.

Gold Coast Bulletin --> Overcrowded Gold Coast rail stations: why illegal parking fines must be waived

QuotePLEAS have been made to the State Government to waive fines for illegal parking at Gold Coast railway stations because it cannot guarantee enough spaces.

Commuters are continuing to face one-off fines of $262 for parking their vehicles off the allocated paved spaces at the Coomera station.

A survey by Coomera MP Michael Crandon has confirmed the increased pressure on station parking, with 33 cars counted as illegally parked at the Coomera station in October last year, 65 in February and 85 in late March

Surveying at Ormeau station in February and March showed more than 90 illegal parks by midmorning. In one instance, 106 vehicles were parked outside the full car park by 11.30am on March 6.

Mr Crandon has written to Transport Minister Mark Bailey after a resident paid for a fine that was imposed when his son had no choice but to park in an illegal area off the car park at the Coomera station to ensure he reached an important appointment in Brisbane.

"The parking was always tight at Coomera but with the new town centre it is terrible," the resident told the MP.

"I see people parking at the station and walking into the centre. I am sure there is something that can be done in terms of shopping centre patrons using the station car park."

Mr Crandon asked that the fine for the Katinka Circuit resident be waived, much like complaints were not pursued in October last year after public outrage from residents.

Some fines were waived because Transport bureaucrats discovered construction workers, unable to find parks, were using the rail station spaces.

"These cars are parked in a safe way, in a safe area within the Coomera rail station and as I understand it, there have been no incidents regarding people finding an informal place to park," Mr Crandon said.

His surveying showed informal parking continued to occur at both stations, but vacant land at Ormeau Station enabled most drivers to park legally.

The Coomera MP has asked for a review of all car park fines at the Coomera rail station and "that clemency be given to all patrons" until the station car park is upgraded.

Mr Bailey told The Bulletin: "The parking issues Mr Crandon complains about stem from his own LNP's cuts to infrastructure when they were in power. The Newman LNP cut $600 million from transport infrastructure and took the growing northern Gold Coast region for granted."

Labor was investing more than $114 million for park 'n' ride facilities across the south east and had "cut fares to support commuters"

Detailed design for additional car parks for Ormeau station was underway with the department looking at opportunities to improve parking at Coomera Station.

"Anyone who wishes to challenge parking infringements has the option to discuss their fine by following directions on the infringement notice," he said.

a proper T.O.D model that a basic 3rd grader could come up with fixes all these issues...

build apartments instead of parking spaces,
feeder buses get payed for by the council rates/land appreciation/commercial development...
seriously how hard is it??

Unfotunately some politicians live in an alternate reality.....they have given in to the car user....let that sink in.....they would rather tend to the car driver...instead of building something for people wanting to live/work near a train station or upgrading bus services...

FFS is toowong/southbank/newstead not enough of a success story for them to realise it??
think of how much money a 15 story hotel right next to coomera or helensavle station would bring instead of building 30 or so park and ride spaces  :fp:
More money for security as well...making the network safer.....heck......a well developed train station can even have its own permanent police beat...

But I repeat.....some politicians simply live in an alternate reality.

There is already a large apartment complex at Eight Mile Plains which is a big success as a TOD. I believe a new tower is going in there soon too. The number of park and ride spaces there is ludicrous already. I'm with TB, just build more apartments.

Milton is another example of this done well. I'm hoping once Albion gets off the ground that will be another good one, maybe enough of a catalyst to start building some more?

The funny one that sometimes comes up is Coorparoo square. A TOD apartment building/urban renewal without the "transit" (Eastern busway not yet built to there).  :fp:

James

I don't think apartments would make much sense in Coomera - it would have all the hallmarks of affordable housing gone wrong (note the difference between Toowong and Coomera in proximity to Brisbane).

However, upgraded feeder buses and bus lanes are both urgently required. The feeders out there are running once every 1-2 hours and cut out at 5pm - grossly inadequate, no wonder everybody drives. Bus lanes and similar because otherwise, the buses will get stuck in the same traffic as the cars currently do.

The corridor between Helensvale and Beenleigh is very close to becoming a car-dominated congestion nightmare, yet the politicians seem to have no understanding of how bad it's about to get.
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

They just keep talking about how good the Coomera Connector will be but good god i do not see it being a solution at all. Just funneling more people into cars and creating a complete nightmare where it will merge with the M1 in Logan

I think any apartments there would sell out and be rented/occupied fully almost immediately....provided the area is kept free of troublemakers.....they would probably be majorly tenanted by local workers @ dreamworld/westfield...

However this is an income game:

Park and rides or TOD residential/commercial both bring varying degrees of money....via different delivery methods...

I'm assuming the reason governments like rail P&R`s so much is because 1 parked out P&R brings in a decent amount of rail revenue via GST whereas an apartment brings in its GST in the form of council fees, power, water, local shopping/groceries etc...

The question is.......which has the better profit.....I would say TOD brings in more GST profit.....and with that brings more money for bus services...

Time to buck the outer rail station P&R trends & prioritise residential/commercial......each station is different obviously.

I also think the best non gold coast TOD outer opportunities are sandgate(close to beach), Wynnum central(close to beach), Petrie(new uni on its doorstep).....they need to sort out all of the old 'for lease' buildings that these suburbs are rife with and put up some T.O.D..

We need to start giving outer Brisbane TOD a fair go...distance from Brisbane should not be dictating whether to proceed...

Here's my top list of potential TODs:
1- Greenslopes (hideously underutilized station. TOD would change that)
2 - Holland Park West (see above)
3 - Altandi (popular station, encourage further infill development/increased density in central Sunnybank
4 - Indooroopilly (same as 3 essentially)
5 - Doomben (close to Northshore Hamilton development, encourage urban renewal which could potentially spread to Pinkenba, encourage more patronage on underutilized line, which in turn would encourage more frequency, and maybe open up options for reopening the line further...)

SurfRail

Coomera will absolutely have apartment buildings.  It's designated as one of 3 principal regional activity centres for the Gold Coast - along with Southport and Robina.  Coomera is going to get bigger so it isn't a case of just chucking towers next to the station and leaving it at that.

I expect most of the activity will still be contained to the Gold Coast the way it is now.  There is a massive difference in the number of people who leave the Gold Coast LGA for work compared to the outer Brisbane LGAs, all of which are substantially less self contained.

QuoteI expect most of the activity will still be contained to the Gold Coast the way it is now
You can already see more development picking up at places like north Burleigh/Miami/palm/kirra beach.....so I'm assuming that's the plan.....develop for the new light rail...
The thing with the gold coast is its good paralleling of the coast with the rail-line......so while building in from the coast there will always be that of building inwards/outwards from the rail stations......then its just a case of easily running all crosstown bus routes at high frequency to connect both..

IF there is one thing brisbanites are envious of.......its the gold coast layout......unfortunately here in briz we are stuck with rivers that need to be built over/under, an aged rail system, our crosstown roads(eg: granard, stanley,OCR to name but a few.....are getting more clogged while most of the gold coast ones flow relatively smoothly...

Upgrade to Coomera Railway Station Car Park

TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the urgent need to upgrade the car park at the Coomera Railway Station to accommodate the huge increase in population in the Coomera-Pimpama area. The latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that Pimpama on the northern Gold Coast has the biggest growth of any suburb in Queensland and is the fastest-growing outside a capital anywhere in Australia. This growth is a continuation of the past five years. A significant increase in car park spaces, from the current 558 spaces, at the Coomera Railway Station is therefore essential for the provision of services to the residents of the Coomera-Pimpama area. Recent counts of "informally parked" cars within the Coomera Railway Station have been as high as 85 cars, during school terms and university semesters.
The Coomera-Pimpama area is a well located and planned urban settlement and, as such, must be serviced by the appropriate infrastructure.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all in its power to ensure the Department of Transport and Main Roads and Queensland Rail upgrade and increase the car park size, at the Coomera Railway Station, as a matter of urgency.

$2 million funding boost for Ormeau Park 'n' Ride

The Palaszczuk Government has announced it will double its funding to help deliver more than 110 additional car parks for Ormeau station commuters.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the $2 million funding boost would bring the total investment package for the Ormeau Park 'n' Ride upgrade to $4 million and the total number of car parks at the station to 390, once constructed.

"Initial design work on the upgrade indicated that only 70 new car parks could be built, but we have since been able to identify that, with further detailed design work, a total of 110 additional spaces can be built," Mr Bailey said.

"Building more car parks will mean construction won't start until later than initially planned however, the extra time and additional funding will ensure a larger Park 'n' Ride facility for Ormeau commuters.

The additional design work is expected to be complete in coming months, with tenders for construction soon after.

"The Palaszczuk Government is committed to delivering transport infrastructure to support growth on the Gold Coast and the record 182 million public transport trips taken across the south east last year.

Patronage at Ormeau station jumped 21 per cent when comparing trips at the station from October to December 2018 and the same period the previous year – top six among south east train stations.

"Together with Gold Coast Light Rail Stage Two and the Coomera to Helensvale rail duplication, the Palaszczuk Government is delivering when it comes to public transport for Gold Coasters. It brings our total investment to deliver more than 2,300 new car parks for commuters across the south east to $116 million.

"Once complete, the Ormeau Park 'n' Ride upgrade will help to connect even more Ormeau residents with public transport in their region."

Will the QLD Government give out 132 GoCards loaded with $44K to "encourage" PT use?

It's a massive subsidy.

You could probably buy an extra train for the cost of the car park.

Now, imagine if 132 units were built at the station on a 99 year lease instead.

Would cost the government nothing, generate revenue and patronage plus, assuming most people were 2 people to a unit, 234 people more could access the station. With the $$ from the lease you can * also * fund the bus.

Couriermail Quest --> Commuters back on track with car park extension opened at Murarrie

Quote132 park 'n' ride car spaces.

State Member for Bulimba Di Farmer said the $5.8 million upgrade had delivered extra capacity to reduce the parking pressures at the station.

"Our numbers show more people are using Murarrie Station, so this upgrade will be welcomed by our community and the commuters who travel here to catch the train," Ms Farmer said.

Between last July and April this year, almost 143,000 passengers caught the train at Murarrie, which is up almost six per cent at the station, compared to the same period in the previous year.

"Now with an additional 132 parking bays, commuters have access to more parking, as well as benefiting from improved lighting and installed more security cameras to improve customer safety."

Ms Farmer said Cannon Hill Station was one of the next southside stations in line for an upgrade under the State Government's park'n'ride upgrade program.

"That project involves upgrades to the overpass and security improvements, as well adding to the station's 168 existing parking spaces," he said.

"That upgrade will focus on improving station accessibility, including lift access, raised platforms, hearing loops and other features for people with a disability."

Tenders for construction have been called to build 80 more spaces at Cannon Hill and Ms Farmer said the Government was on track to award the contract for the works next month.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the Murarrie Station upgrade was delivered in addition to the State Government's $114 million election commitment to expand capacity at nine other southest Queensland park'n'rides, providing more than 2300 new car parks over the next five years.

"We are working hard to invest in public transport to help ease congestion in southeast Queensland and this investment will make it even easier for customers to access public transport," Mr Bailey said.

"More Queenslanders are taking public transport, with a record 182 million trips across the southeast in 2017-18. That's why the Palaszczuk Government is building the $5.4 billion Cross River Rail project and investing in dedicated lanes for buses on key arterial roads in Brisbane.

"Park 'n' ride facilities are an important element of the transport network and, when delivered in the right locations, allow customers to connect with high-frequency public transport where walking, bike riding and connecting public transport options are limited."

New Park and Ride facility at Springfield goes to community consultation with a construction date early next year

Couriermaili Quest------->https://www.couriermail.com.au/questnews/southwest/call-for-feedback-on-springfield-park-n-ride-plans/news-story/34bb5d1cabefde307bd32200bb91dee4

QuoteResidents are being asked for feedback on newly released plans for the new multi-level carpark upgrade to be built west of Brisbane.

Julie Sanderson, South-West Satellite

July 18, 2019 7:45pm

State MP for Jordan Charis Mullen has called for community feedback on newly released plans for the park 'n' ride upgrade at Springfield.

STATE ALP MP for Jordan Charis Mullen has released the first glimpse of proposed plans for the $44.5 million Springfield Central Station park 'n' ride upgrade.

The plans allow for 650 additional carparks for commuters, more than doubling the current capacity.

"This is a big and complex project – in a location that is already quite constrained," Ms Mullen said.

She said in preparation for the carpark build and new AFL Stadium precinct, the Transport and Main Roads Department would build 300 temporary carparks along Eden Station Drive in coming weeks and would begin preliminary works.

Construction of the new AFL stadium will restrict some current parking facilities.

Ms Mullen has invited Springfield residents to find out more about the multi-level carpark project at two information sessions to be held at the Springfield Central Station.

"We only have one opportunity to plan and design this properly and I want to ensure that we deliver the best outcome for the community."

She said she understood the current frustrations being felt by commuters at the station.

"The current carpark is over stretched – and I understand how frustrating it is to turn up at the station and not be able to find a carpark," she said.

A detailed design is expected to be completed by early next year with construction to follow.

Ms Mullen said the Transport and Main Roads Department was delivering the project.

The facility would increase the number of park 'n' ride spaces to around 1100.

Ms Mullen said detailed design work included consideration of pedestrian safety and amenity,

investigating vehicle access into and around the carpark and ensuring the overall design of the new facility complements the surrounding area.

Once complete, the new park 'n' ride will feature:

■ 24-hour access to the multi-storey commuter parking facility

■ elevators in the multi-storey building for those who have difficulty using stairs

■ additional accessible parking spaces close to the station

■ security through CCTV and lighting.

"The upgrade forms part of the State Government's $114 million investment to deliver new park 'n' ride spaces across South East Queensland, adding to the more than 30,000 spaces currently available."

Ms Mullen said better local connectivity via footpaths and cycle paths was up to the Ipswich City Council but said the overall upgrade would include safe and easy access points to the station.

Information sessions will be held at Springfield Central Station on:

Thursday, July 25 July, 4-6pm and Friday, August 2 6.30-8.30am

The sessions will provide information on an indicative design that includes vehicle access in and out of the carpark, as well as safe and easy pedestrian movements to the train station.

It is a fuking joke.  This park 'n' ride is years away, the local bus network is shambolic.  It is time to improve the feeders, this can be done overnight essentially.  The traffic is already bad around the area, this park 'n' ride is only going to induce more local congestion.

Springfield generally is a car dependent mess.

:fp:

Letter submitted to Ed QT

QuoteDear Editor,

I read the article " FIRST LOOK: Designs for $44m Springfield carpark revealed, QT 19th July " with some bemusement.  This park 'n' ride facility is years away yet.  There was only $2.4 million allocated to upgrade the Springfield Central train station park 'n' ride facility in 2019-20 budget ( http://statements.qld.gov.au/Statement/2019/7/15/budget-backs-jobs-for-ipswich ).

What needs to be done now is to improve the shambolic local Springfield feeder bus network.  Provide buses with the coverage, the frequency and the span that residents can actually use and take pressure off the parking mess that is Springfield Central. Bus improvements can be done virtually overnight.  The proposed park 'n' ride is going to take a while - years, let's be frank. The problem is acute and action is needed now to sort the buses.

$44 million dollars for 650 car parking spaces is $68,000 per car parking space.  $44 million dollars to fill a train 2/3rd with passengers. We have to be smarter than this.

Yours sincerely,

Robert  etc.

^ $68,000 per car park. Fills about half of one train.

If you wondered where the PT budget was going... it was going to motorists' parking!

Why not build 325 apartments next to the station? It would provide the equivalent capacity of a car park and cost nothing... indeed it would generate revenue.

Buses for god's sake.  Put on more buses instead of locking up all that money in capital intensive waste like this.

The buses in Springfield are execrably bad.  It takes forever to leave the suburb.  What you need is a circulator route or 2, and much faster and direct (and frequent) links to Goodna, Redbank, the Ipswich CBD and Ripley (and eventually eastwards towards Greenbank and Browns Plains to the south of the military area), that run 7 days a week.

There needs to be recognition from the numbskull idiots in Treasury that better bus services would obviate the need for this kind of waste, and they would be used all the time.  In particular, there needs to be acknowledgement that the majority of people using the public transport system's park and ride spaces are peak hour users who leave their cars there free of charge, but plenty of those trips would be contestable if you could actually catch a bus home later at night.  I had to move as a consequence of the 2014 Gold Coast changes because my last bus went from being around midnight to a time before when I usually leave Central.  Others not in my particular circumstances will just abandon the network and drive.

^^I can't see TMR relinquishing on this car park and putting more buses on. Even though this could be a sensible approach.  The travelling public are very car centric hence Park n Rides everywhere. People are in love with their cars and motorcycles (Personalised Transport)  in Brisbane.  More cycling should also be encouraged to and from the station with secure storage facilities and segregated paths. There is no mention of secure bicycle storage in this facility either which is sad.

More money is spent on buying and up keep of private vehicles than bringing up kids in this country. Where are the priorities?
