I got caught in the heaviest part of the storm while waiting for the train at Milton. I don't think I've ever experienced feeling the brunt of rain, hail and wind that heavy before. I saw news reports that were saying it got up to 150 km/h in some places. Needless to say, I didn't bother waiting for the train that wasn't coming.

James

Trees fallen over in multiple places here. Wind was so strong 20m tall trees had tops blown off and debris has literally been stuck to buildings which are 3-4m undercover.

Thankfully work was undercover, although a roof panel or two came off, which was not exactly comforting.
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

Couriermail --> Brisbane train passengers stuck on board by freak storm

I sometimes think that if a DH had been kept at Mayne, it could be used on occasion to pull sparks sets out of tunnels or at least move to a position where evacuation would be possible.  DHs can run through significant flood waters.

The red/black heavy front appears to be travelling slowly north-east, towards samford, strathpine, etc. Admittedly, this is summised by the limited number of 6 frames that BOM radar provides at a time. Still, it looks like the city will be in for fairly constant rain for the next hour or two, leading into peak hour.

Yo, major cell swung off direct path for Brisbane CBD, will now impact north.  Black has appeared in the cell, this indicates hail sadly ..

QuoteSoutheast Queensland residents should have a better idea of the Queensland Government plans for new dams west of Ipswich after Monday.

Fairfax Media has been told State Cabinet on Monday will consider a report identifying the three dams which warrant detailed studies from the eight potential sites suggested in April 2014.

At that time the State Government announced it would study these sites for new dams;

5 - Stanley River near Peachester;

6 - Tenterhill Creek near Gatton;
