Suburban Tour - Richlands 5th of March 2011
The new suburban line to Richlands opens in early 2011. Join us for a short tour from the city in the heritage retained stainless steel SX carriages (themselves celebrating 50 years in traffic in 2011) along the new line. There will be a choice of a morning or afternoon tour and this will be an opportunity to see the work being done by Queensland Rail to extend and improve the suburban system including:-

The new station at Darra and associated track work
The new station at Richlands
Departing from Roma Street station, the steam train will first of all travel across the Merivale Bridge and down the southside to Yeerongpilly, over to Corinda via the cross-country link, then join the Ipswich line to Darra and verge off on to the Richlands line.

We then return to the city via the main western line to complete a pleasant morning or afternoon of steaming around in the last of the 1961 built Commonwealth Engineering Stainless Steel carriages.

Already booked mine.  How many RailBOT members might I see on board the train?

AFAIK this is the first "steam over a new section of line" tour since DD17 No. 1051 hauled an SX set over the new line between Beenleigh & Helensvale in 1996 - an evening tour that fit into the hourly timetable running after the evening peak.  I do not believe steam has ever been beyond Helensvale on the new Gold Coast line, nor to the airport.
