Thought some might be interested in viewing this early route map I have of the old BCC CityXpress routes from the early 1990's so here it is :-t

Unbelieveable!

There you have today's equivalents:

BUZ 444
BUZ 385
BUZ 333
BUZ 345
BUZ 200
174/175
BUZ 111
BUZ 130
100
120

Nice to show the GCL Connection points. I wonder if the frequency on the GCL then was better, worse or the same as today...

Erm, not quite TramTram :).

503 = Route 180
529 = A mix of routes 111, 170, 174, 175
509 = Route 155
501 = Route 130
511 = Route 120
521 = Route 110
508 = Route 450
518 = I think Route 430
528 = Route 444
506 = Route 380/1
502 = Route 340
505 = Route 200

Oh, it's even earlier than the early '90s! Route 593 (now 150) appeared in 1986 at the latest [Edit: Possibly a bit later, although no later than 1988; my memory may have failed me here], and the 583/584/580 (now 453/454/450 respectively) started plying the Centenary suburbs around then, if I'm correct. They replaced the 508, which had been one of the first Cityxpress routes introduced in 1982 (along with the 501, 502, 504, 505, 506 and 509). In the 1984-edition UBD, there was no connecting road between the Learoyd/Watson Roads intersection and Inala (although there was a gazetted road, shown in grey), so this map has to be from the mid-'80s. In short, good find!

By the way, where would "Chapel Hill Interchange" have been? Around the corner of Moggill Rd and the Western Freeway? As for the 529, that's now the 170. I always confused it with the 180 when the current system of route nomenclature kicked in.

Ha, extending Saturday "service" beyond midday is the only improvement to the GCL since we used it for family trips in '84/'85.

Actually, the modern-day equivalent of the 506 is the 385. Route 509 equated to either the 160 or the 150, depending on how you look at it. Later on, the 593 was the full-time route, with the 509 running only on weekdays (in tandem with the 593 for a 15-minute frequency to Garden City).

Yeah, I stand corrected on the 506.  The 509 would've been a mix of routes pre-busway days with it needing to be aligned to the available road network at the time.

Personally, I find the current numbering system to be far more understandable to the everyday user than that numbering system.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the '5' in that numbering system representing the type of service ie: 'Cityxpress'?

Interesting that the Moggill route went via Milton Rd & Western Freeway.  As for Lone Pine route (current 446).  The current 444 does a lot of business at Indro.  This isn't talking about peak hour services?

Right on the money. The 500 series also included the Great Circle Line, which is why it's numbered 598/599 today. The first seven Cityxpress routes were all 50x. What I don't get is why the now-120 was numbered 511, when it had nothing to do with Ipswich/Beaudesert Rd. Why not 507, for instance? Same with the 593: something like 559 would've been more consistent. Oh well, all water under the bridge now.

Just to confuse everyone futher, The 505 was replaced with the 205 which no longer exists. The 200 BUZ was formerly the 515 to Carindale Heights.
