BUZ, Bus Lanes and Stop Spacing

I think we all agree that there needs to be more BUZ routes (100, etc.) and that our major roads should have bus lanes for all routes that use them.  As the bus lane provides a deadicated right of way and the route can operate as a transit route should stop spacings on the bus lane section be at transit distances of approximate 1000m.

Jarrett Walker mentions that people will walk further to a "very fast, frequent, and reliable rapid transit service".

QuoteHow big is the walk radius?  Actually, different people are comfortable walking different distances, so a truer view of these circles would be very fuzzy, gradually dissapating further out from the stop. You don't want to look at that, though, and it's hard to do geometry with it, so transit planners generally observe that the walking distance that most people seem to tolerate -- the one beyond which ridership falls off drastically -- is about 400m (around 1/4 mi) for a local-stop service, and about 1000m (around 3/5 mi) for a very fast, frequent, and reliable rapid transit service.

As a bus running in its own lanes is likely to approach a very fast, frequent, and reliable rapid transit service hould the tops be spaced further apart (also helps with the fast part).

Thoughts/comments?

Gazza had an idea previously in the 100 BUZ thread re: coloured lines. Thinking about it more, I see this "frequent network" branding more possible (implementation still does not exclude BUZ though IMHO).

Stop spacing is always tricky. Stop spacing where? On which service? Context matters.
Applying a blanket 1000 m stop distance might not be the best idea IMHO. Maybe STB can shed some light on this...

I get annoyed walking to CityGlider stops which are about 800m apart, so that is a 400 m walk at least.
800 m spacing is probably the max IMHO, unless you are running a rocket or on the busway or there is some special feature like the gateway bridge or something like that.
Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

I don't think it should be any further apart than the gap between Indooroopilly shops and Taringa.  And that one is too far, IMO.  Actually, looking it up that one is 1.3km.

CityGlider should never have been limited stops.
