WORK on South Australia's largest-ever road project - the $812 million South Rd superway - will begin in February and be completed by 2013, the Government said yesterday.

The Government awarded the contract for the road to the Urban Superway Consortium, comprising John Holland, McMahon Contractors and SA-based Leed Engineering,

The 2.8 kilometre section of elevated road is expected to employ about 600 people directly during construction and about 2000 people indirectly.

John Holland group managing director Glenn Palin said the superway was the company's largest project in SA, and would result in an expanded presence for the company in the state.

At that price each user should be given their own brand new car to use in the 2.8 km of road.  That is an outrageous cost and an insult to ever rate and tax payer!
