Ferny Grove peak hour pre-Keperra-FG duplication

My calcs are that if Keperra-Ferny Grove is a 4 minute section, then abolishing the expresses in peak hour (presumably also the Mitchelton terminators would be abolished) would result in no improvement in the frequency on the line. i.e. no more than the current 7tph in peak.  This seems to also mean no clockface timetable.  I'm not sure if this is a good thing.  Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Ah, but is it really a 4 minute section?

The 7:16AM departure from Ferny Grove is timetabled for 3 minutes.  7:16 at Ferny Grove, 7:19 at Keperra.

3 minutes seems to be the norm in the outbound direction as well, e.g.

Keperra 7:31, FG, 7:34
Keperra 8:02, FG, 8:05

If it isn't then there is an awful lot of fat in the timetable.

Outbound trains leaving Keperra 6:59am-10:02am, 3:44pm, 6:44pm, 7:21pm, 7:39pm all do it 3 minutes.  Other trains take longer, up to 7 minutes.
One inbound train leaving FG 7:16am takes 3 minutes.  All other weekday inbound trains take 4 minutes.

Source: Journey Planner's timetable.

Seems that previous discussion happened shortly before I joined.  Probably a lot of the fat is due to the single track constraints formerly on both sides of Keperra.

Honestly, I'm really annoyed with the reluctance to write a decent timetable.  What's their problem?

Does anyone what the speed limits are for the Keperra-Ferny Grove section?

Ummm, not sure exactly. I'll try and get a look next time I catch a train, although I can't guarantee when that will be (exam block at uni atm), but I know they get fairly fast for the straight from FG to the first corner, so I think that might be ~100?
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
