Now I know that there was some heavy rain this afternoon but what happened to the Ipswich rail line in the afternoon?

I checked the QR site around 4.15pm and delays of up to 10mins expected on all lines - no biggie I thought - but then turned up at Central Platform 5 to catch the 4.54pm to Oxley around 4.49pm - and then waited around 20mins with no advice on where trains were or are - 4.54pm train arrived around 5.10pm and was packed - poor Roma Street commuters weren't able to get on. Train arrived at Oxley around 5.38pm - 20mins or so late (not that this was a huge deal but somewhat longer than the published "up to 10mins delay" and again with no advice coming from either QR on the platform or the driver on the train as to the delay while waiting or travelling on the train.

Then I get home to check the QR site and see that the only two cancelled trains this afternoon on the whole citytrain network were both on the Ipswich line 5.12pm and 5.40pm both due to train faults - not a cancellation on any other line. Thus the subject of this thread what has caused this bad luck to strike this line and not the others? (read tongue in cheek)

I caught the 4.23pm Ipswich service from Roma St which was on time.  I checked for delays when I got home and noticed the two Ipswich line services cancelled on the Citytrain site.

Thanks for the report.  Seems communication broke down a bit again, but there was a bit going on I think with system wide issues with the heavy rain falls and flooding at Brunswick St.  Still, passengers do appreciate timely advice as to what is going on.

Good to see things were under control at 4.23pm Bob - but what about any response or comment on those supernatural forces which only appeared to affect the Ipswich line?

The other issue I am raising however didn't explicitly articulate is that advice of "up to 10 minutes" delay on the city train network is something that most commuters will cop without needing to change their behaviours - however advice of 20 - 30+ minute delays may well cause affected commuters to change their travel behaviours - catching earlier trains, advising family, changing prior booked appointments etc etc - advising of up to10 min delays on the city train network then delivering 20, 30+ minute delays to those who attempt to find out the state of the citytrain network is something which needs to be worked on.

According to the QR web site the problem was faults with the units making up the two cancelled services.

I think the Ipswich line was just 'unlucky' ?
