A modern myth has been defined as 'is a form of modern folklore consisting of apocryphal stories that those who tell them believe to be true.'*

There many 'modern myths' that float around the rail network.

Lets list a few, please add your myths too!

1.  Too many freight trains to allow a higher frequency off peak  passenger timetable

2.  Patronage is poor, therefore no more services are needed

3.  Pax only want single seat journeys

4.  People prefer to drive

5.  Full height platforms interfere with train operations

6.  Pax like muffins

7. Public transport is for peak hour journeys to and from work only.

8.  More roads means less congestion ...

9.  A constant expansion of park 'n' ride facilities will solve parking issues

Not sure about No. 6.  I like a good muffin myself.

10. We are never going to get public and active transport above 30%.  

11. This tunnel, freeway, bypass will reduce congestion.

12.  Public transport can never be as fast as driving.

13 Public transport is only economicly viable in peak hour.

14. Fuel, rego and other road taxes are great than what the goverment spends on our roads (Blame the RACQ for this one).

15. This tunnel, freeway, bypass is the final missing link on our road system.

16. Public transport can not cater for 'my" trip.

17.  Brisbane is too hilly/hot for cycling.

18. Public transport can not cater for business trips during the day.

19. Politicians are too important to catch public transport.
